On the 14th of February, Real Sociedad have the unenviable task of travelling to the Parc des Princes for the first leg of their Round of 16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain. This Champions League match will kick off at 20:00 GMT, but will PSG claim the routine win that many are expecting them to? Well, you can find out my thoughts on this big match by reading on. Remember that this is a two-legged tie, so the winner of this one will not necessarily qualify for the Quarter-Finals. Let's crack on.
🏆 Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Sociedad: Who Will Win?
At the start of the season, many would have backed PSG to run away with the Ligue 1 title and, after 20 matches have been played, they are currently sitting at the top of the table with an eight-point cushion over Nice in second place. They are averaging 2.40 goals per match in the league, while they have conceded just an average of 0.85 goals per game. They might be playing in a league that lacks true quality, but they showed their class by qualifying from a very hard Champions League group - although, only goal difference separated them from the Round of 16 and the Europa League.
Real Sociedad are sitting in 6th place in La Liga, but are all but out of contention for a top-four spot as they are 11 points behind Atletico Madrid in 4th place. They do not score as many goals as other teams, but their defence is one of the best around at the moment. They showed this in Group D of the Champions League when they only conceded two goals in a group that included Inter, Benfica, and RB Salzburg. To concede just two goals in a Champions League group is something that they can definitely be proud of.
Everyone will be expecting PSG to go on and win this match, and I do too. However, I think that Real Sociedad will make it very hard for the Parisian side and will not go down with a whimper. I think PSG will edge this match by a 2-1 scoreline.
My Prediction: 🏆 PSG 2 Real Sociedad 1 ⚽

PSG vs Real Sociedad: Match Winner Odds
Predicting the match winner is always a popular type of bet, and you will probably not be too surprised to find out that Paris Saint-Germain are the big favourites to win this match and take one step towards the quarter-finals. Let us look at the match winner odds that are currently on offer:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
PSG | 1.59 | 1.59 | 1.57 | 1.56 | 1.60 |
Draw | 4.05 | 4.05 | 3.80 | 4.10 | 4.00 |
Real Sociedad | 5.25 | 5.25 | 5.00 | 5.80 | 5.33 |
Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Sociedad: Both Teams To Score Odds
Sometimes you can tell that the bookmakers are pretty confident that both teams will find the back of the net, but there is some doubt for this match. This is not that surprising when you consider the defensive record that both of these teams can boast at this stage in the season. This is one of those markets that really could go either way and below are the odds that five of my favourite bookies are currently offering.
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 1.72 | 1.72 | 1.73 | TBA | 1.76 |
No | 2.05 | 2.05 | 2.00 | TBA | 2.00 |
PSG vs Real Sociedad: Over/Under 2.5 Goals Odds
Once again, due to the defensive capabilities of both teams, the bookies are not entirely convinced as to which way this particular market will end up going either. They are slightly favouring the over 2.5 goals option, but are wary of both defences cancelling each other out. If you want to bet on the over/under 2.5 goals market, then below are the odds that are currently on offer:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over | 1.69 | 1.69 | 1.73 | TBA | 1.71 |
Under | 2.04 | 2.04 | 2.10 | TBA | 2.05 |
✔️ PSG vs Real Sociedad - Betting Tips
Whether you are making use of free bets or betting with your own hard-earned money, you should get into the habit of having a look at some betting tips before you go ahead and put down any type of wager. So, I am now going to use this betting guide to give you some of my top tips for this PSG vs Real Sociedad match.
- Tip 1: Bet on PSG to win: The bookies have this as a pretty easy win for the home side, but Real Sociedad have proven already in this season's Champions League that they are no pushovers on their day. They only conceded two goals in the Group Stage, which is an impressive feat. However, I think that PSG's attacking talent will see them over the line next Tuesday. If you want to bet on a PSG win, then Fun Casino Sports are currently offering odds of 1.60 for a home win.
- Tip 2: Bet on over 2.5 goals: I know you might be wary of this due to the defensive capabilities of both sides, but there have been over 2.5 goals in 90% of the matches that have been played at the Parc des Prince this season. Likewise, Real Sociedad's away matches have seen over 2.5 goals 50% of the time, when compared to 36% at the Reale Arena. If you want to put money on over 2.5 goals, then you can find odds of 1.73 at 10Bet Sport.
- Tip 3: Bet on both teams to score: PSG have allowed the away team to score in 60% of their home matches this season, while Real Sociedad have found the back of the net on 50% of their away matches. This tells me that there is a pretty good chance that both PSG and Real Sociedad will score in this match, and those who agree with me can find odds of 1.76 at Fun Casino Sport.
- Tip 4: Bet on PSG to win 2-1: I like to try and predict the correct score due to the enticing odds that are on offer, and if you also think that the French side will earn themselves a 2-1 win, then Betiton Sport are currently offering odds of 7.45 for this outcome.
1️⃣PSG Update
Paris Saint-Germain are well on their way to claiming yet another Ligue 1 title - they have picked up eight wins and two draws from their previous ten matches to guide themselves to an eight-point gap at the top of the table. While PSG fans will obviously want their side to win the league, their main wish is to see their team win the Champions League. With the amount of money that they have spent in recent years, there is a lot of pressure on them to claim the title.
They will be happy with the draw that they got as they could have been facing the likes of Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Real Madrid, or Barcelona. They got, and this is no disrespect to Real Sociedad, one of the weaker teams from the seeded pot.

Luis Enrique, unless some players pick up injuries over the weekend, will be missing three players for this clash with Real Sociedad. You can see the PSG absentees in the following table:

---|---|
Presnel Kimpembe | Achilles Tendon Rupture |
Sergio Rico | Cerebral Hemorrhage |
Milan Skriniar | Ankle Injury |
2️⃣ Real Sociedad Update
Real Sociedad are sitting in 6th place in La Liga, and will still have one eye on making it to next season's Champions League. However, I think they are two far behind Atletico Madrid in 4th, so will probably have to settle for a spot in the Europa League - unless they defy all odds and go on and lift the UCL trophy. While many are not giving them a chance of beating PSG, they will take heart from the fact that they managed to top a pretty tricky group, confining Inter to second place.
