🏆Championship Winner Betting Odds
There are numerous bets available for EFL Championship betting, but one of the most prominent is the Championship Winner market. The table below highlights the most competitive odds for the top four(4) teams in this market.
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Leeds United | 1.22 | 1.22 | 1.22 | 1.22 | 1.22 |
Sunderland | 2.35 | 2.35 | 2.38 | 2.35 | 2.35 |
Sheffield United | 2.60 | 2.60 | 2.63 | 2.60 | 2.60 |
Burnley | 2.75 | 2.75 | 2.75 | 2.75 | 2.75 |
Championship Title Contenders
Let’s look at the four teams leading the betting odds for the 2024/25 Championship title, starting with the team currently in first place.
Leeds United
Leeds United go into their second season under German boss Daniel Farke, having come so close to promotion last season. They lost to Southampton in the Playoff Final after looking like they were going to get automatic promotion for much of the season. They should be there or thereabouts once again this season, and in Farke, they have a coach who knows what it takes to take a team to the Premier League.
Sunderland
I don’t think anyone was quite sure what to expect from Sunderland when the season started, but under new head coach Regis Le Bris they have looked mightily impressive so far. Stacked with players full of potential such as Jobe Bellingham and Chris Rigg. the big question is whether their young squad can hang with the more experienced squads for the whole of the season or will they drop away.
Sheffield United
Chris Wilder is once again proving his worth as a boss with the strong start his side has made to the 2024/25 Championship season. A mass exodus may have had fans fearing the worst at the start of the season, but the Blades have recruited smartly with the likes of Calum O’ Hare, Harrison Burrows and Michael Cooper. They have also hung onto Gustavo Hamer and Anel Ahmedhodzic, meaning their squad is more than capable of mounting a title challenge this season.
Burnley
Burnley are currently fourth favourites to win the division, but you could make an argument that they should be even higher on the list, considering what they have going in their favour. They may have been relegated from the English Premier League but in Scott Parker they have a boss who knows what it takes to get promoted having done so with Fulham and Bournemouth in the past. They also have one of the strongest squads in the division with the likes of Josh Brownhill and Luca Koleosho, so don’t be surprised to see them challenging come the end of the season.
⬇️Championship Relegation Odds
The scrap to avoid relegation down to League One is more than likely going to be just as hotly contested as the fight at the top of the table as the season develops. Below you can find the teams likely to be battling relegation in the Championship along their latest relegation odds as showcased by most bookies in the UK.

Cardiff City | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2.50 | 2.50 |
Queens Park Rangers | 3.25 | 3.25 | 3.25 | 3.25 | 3.25 |
EFL Championship Relegation Contenders
Let’s look at the teams leading the betting odds for Championship relegation this season.
Portsmouth
It has been a long grind back to the second tier of English football for Portsmouth. From their glory years in the Premier League in the early 2000s, Pompey found themselves in the fourth tier of English football in 2013. They spent three years in League 2, before promotion to League 1, where they spent a further seven seasons before promotion to the Championship last season. They won’t want to drop straight back down but judging by their start, it could be a long hard season for manager John Mousinho and his team.
Plymouth
Plymouth found themselves under increased media spotlight this summer with the appointment of Wayne Rooney as their new Head Coach. Whether the former Birmingham and Derby boss can offer long term success to Argyle remains to be seen, but a successful season for the former England striker will surely be keeping the Pilgrims in the Championship for another season.
Cardiff City
Cardiff have already sacked one manager following a dismal start to the season under Erol Bulut. Omer Riza has taken interim charge and although he has picked up 7 points in his five matches so far, Cardiff current position still sees them among the relegation favourites this season.
Queens Park Rangers
The West London club find themselves as one of the favourites to get relegated from this season’s Championship after a nightmare start under Head Coach Marti Cifuentes. The Spanish boss kept the Hoops up last season with a late run that steered them away from the relegation zone and it is looking like they may need something similar this campaign. The club sit bottom of the Championship after 10 games with just a solitary win to their name.
⬆️Championship Promotion Odds
Outside of the top four teams that are favourites for the 2024/25 EFL Championship title, there are plenty of sides whose current position keeps them eyeing promotion to the Premier League by the season end. Below, we will look at four of the of the main challengers for promotion and their latest odds to get promoted.
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Middlesbrough | 3.00 | 3.00 | 3.00 | 3.00 | 3.00 |
West Brom | 3.00 | 2.35 | 3.00 | 3.00 | 3.00 |
Norwich City | 9.00 | 9.00 | 9.00 | 9.00 | 9.00 |
Blackburn Rovers | 13.00 | 13.00 | 13.00 | 13.00 | 13.00 |
EFL Championship Promotion Contenders
Let’s look at why they are promotion contenders for 2024/25.
Middlesbrough
Boro possess one of the most highly rated coaches in the division in Micheal Carrick and have some supremely talented players such as Rav van den Berg and Hayden Hackney in their squad, meaning a promotion charge is well within their capabilities this season. They have been inconsistent, but if their form clicks the rest of the League know full well what Carrick’s team are capable of this season.
West Bromwich Albion
Like Carrick, West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is highly thought of for his work at The Hawthorns with Wet Brom and his previous job at Huddersfield. The Baggies were beaten in the playoff Semi-Finals last season by Southampton but are certainly capable of mounting another charge for the Top 6 this season, with players like Tom Fellows and Josh Maja in their ranks.
Norwich City
Norwich along with Burnley are the most successful side at getting promoted from the EFL Championship with four promotions since 2004 to their name, and fans will hope that new boss Johannes Thorup can add number five to that list. The Canaries are currently seventh favourites to be promoted and while automatic promotion may be beyond them this season, they have shown in the past that they can steer themselves into the Top 6.
Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn have made a solid start to the campaign under John Eustace, scoring the fourth highest number of goals so far despite losing talismanic forward Sammie Szmodics over the transfer window. A Top 2 spot should be beyond them, but if they can maintain their form, they could surprise many and sneak into the Top 6.
🎯Championship Betting Tips
Now that you know where to find the best championship odds, I am going to give you three of the best football betting tips for the 2024/25 season.
Who Will be Promoted from the 2023/24 EFL Championship?
The Championship can be so difficult to call most years and for the most part probably will be again this season, but I think Leeds are a good bet to get out of the League this year and back into the Premier League. They came close last season and have a manager that knows how to get teams promoted. If you agree MyriadPlay Sports are offers odds of 1.22 for Leeds to be promoted.
Who Will be Relegated from the 2024/25 EFL Championship
Plymouth survived by the skin of their teeth last season, but I don’t think they will be so lucky this time around. I don’t see the appointment of Wayne Rooney working long term and I would expect the Pilgrims to be one of the three sides relegated by the end of the season. To back Plymouth to go down check the championship betting market Betiton with odds of 2.00.
Who Will be the Championships' Top Goalscorer
A keenly fought contest every season is the race for the Golden Boot. Sammie Szmodics won it last season and this year I can see Leeds forward Joel Piroe taking the crown. The former Swansea man should play most weeks when fit, and he should get lots of chances playing for an attacking Leeds team. To bet on Joel Piroe to be the top goal scorer Betarno are offering odds of 21.00.

▶️Championship Format
The Championship comprises of 24 teams. Over the course of the League season which runs from August to the following May each team plays the other teams in the League twice, once at home and once away. 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a defeat. At the end of the League season the top two teams after 46 games are automatically promoted to the Premier League. The teams ranked 3rd to 6th then face off in the playoffs. The team that finished 3rd plays the 6th placed team while the 4th placed team faces off against the side that finished 5th. They play in two legged Semi-Finals, with the two winners advancing to the Playoff Final at Wembley. The winner of this match then becomes the third team to win promotion to the Premier League.
In terms of relegation from the League the three teams ranked at the bottom of the table in 22nd, 23rd, and 24th positions are relegated to League One. Last Season, Leicester City and surprise package Ipswich Town who achieved back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League went up automatically, with Southampton going up via the Playoffs. Birmingham City, Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United were relegated at the end of the 2023/24 EFL Championship season.
⏪ Championship 2023/24 Season Recap
The 2023/2024 EFL Championship season saw some surprising outcomes over the course of the season. Leicester City under head coach Enzo Maresca went straight back up after suffering relegation from the Premier League in the 2022/23 season. That wasn’t a big shock, but who went up with them was something of a surprise. Kieran Mckenna had led Ipswich back to the EFL Championship after 4 seasons in League 1 but ended up leading them straight up to the Premier League at the first time of asking, becoming the fifth team to earn back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
Ipswich’s achievement was even more impressive when you consider they beat Championship big hitters Leeds United and Southampton to the second automatic promotion place. Both those sides would ultimately have to settle for a playoff place, where it was Russell Martin’s Southampton who would get promoted by way of the Playoffs. In the relegation battle, Birmingham City, Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town were the three sides to go down to the third tier of English football.
Ipswich were the top scorers in the division with 92 goals, with fellow promoted team Leicester the best defensively with 41 goals conceded.
In terms of personal accolades some of the award winners were:
- Top Goalscorer – Sammie Szmodics (Blackburn) – 27 Goals
- Most Clean Sheets – Illan Meslier (Leeds United) – 20
- Player of the Year – Crysencio Summerville (Leeds United)
- Manager of the Year – Kieran McKenna (Ipswich Town)
