League Two Title Contenders
Port Vale
The Valiants have won 30 points of the 42 available to them so far in 2024/25, while they’re unbeaten in 10 League Two matches since August 31st (and 11 in all competitions). This sequence has seen them win impressively against fellow title contenders Notts County (1-0) and AFC Wimbledon (3-2).
Walsall
Walsall are Port Vale’s closest rivals at present, having lost just one of their previous eight games and amassed 26 points so far. The Saddlers have relied heavily on forward Nathan Lowe during the campaign, as he has contributed nine goal involvements (six goals and three assists) in 11 appearances.
Notts County
Despite losing prolific striker Macaulay Langstaff during the summer (he had scored an impressive 71 goals in 97 games for the Magpies), Notts County have recovered to sit third in League Two. They’re also four points behind leaders Port Value, while they have lost just one of their last seven league matches.
League Two Relegation Odds
You can also place League Two bets on teams that will be relegated into the National League at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. A total of two sides will face the drop, with Morecambe and Carlisle currently five and four points from safety respectively. But what are the latest odds?

Relegation Contenders
Morecambe FC
The Shrimps have won just one of their 14 L2 matches so far this season, with this dire run of form leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table. They’ve failed to win any of their seven games at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, while they finished the previous campaign with a run of just two wins in 11 outings.
Carlisle United
Since beating Barrow 1-0 at Brunton Park on August 17th, Carlisle have recorded just a single win in 12 League Two outings. This has left them four points from safety, while Mike Williamson’s side have the worst defence in the competition. In fact, they’ve conceded 0.48 goals-per-shot on target, which is currently a league high.
Harrogate Town
Although Harrogate currently sit 17th in the league and seven points clear of the relegation zone, they’ve won just one of their previous five games in the competition. They’re also the second lowest scorers in the league, having struck 11 goals in 14 matches. So far, they’ve had just 120 shots on goal, which is lower than any of their L2 contemporaries.
League Two Promotion Odds
When it comes to the League Two promotion odds, title contenders Port Vale, Walsall and Notts County are all being heavily backed. But outside of these clubs, what other teams are likely to contend for a place in League One next season?
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Doncaster Rovers | 1.78 | 1.78 | 1.78 | 1.78 | 1.80 |
AFC Wimbledon | 2.33 | 2.35 | 2.35 | 2.33 | 2.38 |

Bradford City | 3.15 | 3.15 | 3.15 | 3.15 | 3.25 |
Promotion Contenders
Doncaster Rovers
Doncaster are currently one of three teams tied on 26 points in League Two, four points behind leaders Port Vale. They’re also enjoying a positive run of form, having lost just one of their last six league games and already beaten the Valiants at Vale Park. They’ve also taken 13 points from the 21 available to them on the road.
AFC Wimbledon
Although AFC Wimbledon may be 13th in League 2 at present, they’ve played three less games than most of the teams above them and are only three points off the playoff places. However, they’ve lost recent matches against promotion rivals Port Vale (3-2) and Notts County (1-0), while the team hasn’t won consecutive league games since September 14th.
Chesterfield
Chesterfield currently sit sixth in the League Two table, despite only losing two matches all season. They’re also unbeaten in eight games since September 14th, although ‘The Spireites’ have drawn seven of their 14 matches so far. They’re the league’s top scorers too, hitting 28 goals in total and averaging 0.15 goals per shot.
Bradford City
Bradford currently fill the final League 2 playoff place, having amassed 22 points from their 14 games to far. The Bantams recently embarked on a five-game unbeaten run too, although this was snapped by a 2-1 home defeat to Doncaster on October 26th. However, striker Andy Cook has eight goals in 14 L2 games this season and tops the scoring charts.
League Two Betting Tips 2024/25 Season
There are many ways in which you can bet on League Two, with additional markets enabling you to pick teams that will finish in the top three and the identity of the top scorer in 2024/25. Here are some expert football betting tips to help you leverage the available markets!
Tip 1 – Back Port Vale to Win the Title
Port Vale currently lead League 2 by four points, while they top the competition’s form table over the course of the last six and 10 matches. In fact, they’re unbeaten in their previous 10 games since August 31st, winning eight of these and earning 26 points from the 30 available to them. The Valiants’ form on the road is also impressive, as they’ve won five out of seven matches away from Vale Park and lost just once. So, we’d recommend backing them to win this season’s title at the highly competitive price of 4.00 with Betarno.
Tip 2 - Pick Notts County for Promotion
The race for promotion from League Two is incredibly tight, with just five points separating Chesterfield in sixth and Cheltenham Town in 16th. However, Notts County offer particular value in this market at a price of 2.63 with Betarno, despite losing prolific striker Macaulay Langstaff to Millwall during the summer. David McGoldrick has helped fill the void with six L2 goals in 11 games so far, while attacking midfielder Alassana Jatta has chipped in with an additional six goals and two assists in the league. The Magpies have only lost twice in 14 league games in 2024/25 too and remain incredibly tough to beat.
Tip 3 - Pick Will Grigg as the League Two Top Scorer
Bradford’s Andy Cook is the League Two betting favourite to win the Golden Boot, having achieved this feat in 2022/23 and struck 65 L2 goals in 147 career appearances for the Bantams. However, Chesterfield’s veteran striker Will Grigg offers even greater value at a price of 7.05 with MyriadPlay, especially having operated at a much higher level during his career and struck 119 League One goals. He also contributed 24 goals in 38 National League goals for the Spirites last season, and plays for an attack-oriented and prolific Chesterfield team.
Betting Market | Selection | Odds |
---|---|---|
League Two Title Winner | Port Vale | 4.00 |
Promotion from League Two | Notts County | 2.63 |
League Two Top Scorer | Will Grigg (Chesterfield) | 7.05 |

League Two 2024/25 Markets
When we posted our League Two betting tips for 2024/25, we covered a range of different lines and markets. Here’s a brief exploration of the most popular L2 betting options.
Outright Champion
We’ll start with the simplest League Two betting market, which requires you to pick the team that will ultimately top the table. In the market for 2024/25, for example, you could back current leaders Port Vale to win at around 3.90. Typically, outright odds are highly competitive due to the number of potential outcomes.
Both Teams to Score (BTTS)
The BTTS market is a subset of match betting, and one that requires you to pick whether both teams will score in a particular match (or not). This is an even money market, while it’s interesting to note that 84 of the 163 League Two matches contested so far in 2024/25 have seen both sides find the net (52%).
Over/Under Goals
In this market, sportsbooks will set different goal totals as individual betting lines, such as 1.5 or 2.5. You’ll then pick your preferred line before betting whether the actual number of goals scored in a game will be over or under this threshold. To help inform your picks, L2 games have produced an average of 2.55 goals per 90 in 2024/25, with 48% of all matches seeing over 2.5 goals scored.
Half Time/Full Time (HT/FT)
You can also access various half-time/full-time markets when engaging in League Two betting. These include betting on the correct score during each half of a game, while you can also pick which team will lead at different junctures of a match. Betarno Sport arguably offers the largest selection of half-time/full-time lines.
League Two Competition Format
As usual, 24 teams are competing in League Two during the 2024/25 season. These sides will play each other twice during the regular season, fulfilling home and away fixtures between August and May. In total, all L2 clubs will each play a total of 46 matches, while 552 fixtures are contested throughout the division.
Teams earn three points for every win that they achieve during the season. Losing teams will be left empty handed, while matches that end tied will see each competing side awarded a point. In the L2 format, points are accumulated during the season, and the three teams that end with the highest tallies will earn automatic promotion to League One.
A fourth promotion slot is available via the playoffs. This knockout competition takes place at the end of the regular season and features the sides that place between 4th and 7th in the League Two table. The playoffs comprise a pair of two-legged semi-finals and a final at Wembley, with the eventual winner progressing to League One ahead of the new season!
As for the two sides with the fewest number of points, they’ll automatically be relegated to the National League.
League Two 2023/24 Season Standings Recap
Stockport topped the League Two table in 2024/25, thanks in part to an eight-match winning streak between March 23rd and April 20th. So, despite losing 2-1 at promotion rivals Wrexham on the final day of the campaign, they accumulated 96 points and finished four points ahead of the Dragons in second.
As for the playoffs, the teams that finished third and fourth (MK Dons and Doncaster) were both eliminated during the semi-final stage. Crawley, who finished sixth in the league with 70 points, thrashed the Dons 8-1 on aggregate in the last four, before going on to defeat Crewe 2-0 in the Wembley showpiece.
At the other end of the table, Forest Green Rovers finished bottom despite winning their final two matches of the campaign. The final day of the 2023/24 season saw Colchester and Sutton United battle to avoid the final relegation spot, but the latter were unable to overturn a three-point deficit and four-goal swing. Both sides drew their final games on April 27th.
Notts County experienced a rollercoaster season in 2023/24, scoring 89 goals and conceding 86 as they finished 14th. Their league matches saw an incredible 3.80 goals scored per 90 minutes, while Magpies’ striker Macaulay Langstaff won the L2 Golden Boot with an impressive 28 goals at a rate of 0.63 per 90.
