Villa Park has become a fortress under Unai Emery, and the next team that will enter the lion's den is Newcastle on the 30th of January. Aston Villa are currently battling it out for a Champions League spot, while Newcastle are looking to stay in touch with 6th and 7th place. The result of this Premier League match could go a long way to determining each team's season, but who do I think will go on and claim the spoils that are on offer? Well, take five minutes to read this prediction, and all of my views will be revealed.
🏆 Aston Villa vs Newcastle: Who Will Win?
At the start of the season, if you had told us Villa fans that we would be level on points with City and Arsenal in January, we would have laughed out loud. However, Emery has got his players playing to his tune, and they have been the surprise package of the season. Not only are they picking up results under the Spaniard, but they are also playing some entertaining football. From their previous 6 matches, they have picked up 3 wins, 2 draws, and 1 defeat. The less said about that defeat to Manchester United, the better.
Newcastle started the season in fine form, but then their time in the Champions League and injuries caught up with them and they started to slide down the table. However, they have not become a poor team all of a sudden, and Villa will be aware of this. They have won just the solitary match from their last 6, scoring just 5 goals in that run. The only team that is in worse form than Newcastle at the moment is Brentford, and that is only because they have a worse goal difference.
Given Villa's form at home and the fact that Newcastle have lost five away matches on the spin in the league, I have got to go for a Villa win - hopefully, I have not jinxed them now. It will be a close game, but I see Emery's men going on to win 2-1.
My Prediction: 🏆 Aston Villa 2 Newcastle 1 ⚽

Aston Villa vs Newcastle: Both Teams To Score Odds
The bookies feel that both teams will manage to score in this game, and I think that this is a fair assumption. Villa have found clean sheets hard to come by this season due to the attacking high line that they play, but they are also one of the top scorers in the league. Newcastle have also struggled for clean sheets recently, which is not surprising considering their injuries. Below are the odds for both teams to score:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 1.48 | 1.48 | 1.50 | 1.48 | 1.54 |
No | 2.40 | 2.40 | 2.40 | 2.38 | 2.43 |
Aston Villa vs Newcastle: Over/Under 2.5 Goals Odds
With regard to the total number of goals that the bookies are expecting in this match, they believe that there is a very good chance that we will see at least three goals scored across the 90 minutes. When these teams met on the first weekend of the season, Newcastle came away with a 5-1 win. Villa are now averaging just over 2 goals per match, while Newcastle are averaging just under 2 goals a game. Below are the over/under 2.5 goals odds for this clash:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 | 1.55 | 1.55 | 1.60 | 1.52 | 1.56 |
Under 2.5 | 2.26 | 2.26 | 2.30 | 2.35 | 2.43 |
✔️ Aston Villa vs Newcastle - Betting Tips
Before you go ahead and bet on this match, please take the time to have a read through my football betting tips.
- Tip 1: Bet on Villa to win: Villa's home form has been something else over the past 11 months or so - If I am not mistaken, they have won 16 and drawn 1 of their 17 home matches since their 4-2 defeat to Arsenal in February of 2023. Now, if that does not make Villa Park a fortress, I do not know what does. Newcastle have lost their five previous away matches, which is why I am backing a Villa win. At the time of writing, 10Bet Sport are offering odds of 1.95 for Villa to claim the points.
- Tip 2: Bet on both teams to score: Some teams struggle to score goals, but this is not something that can be levied at either Villa or Newcastle. Between them this season, they have managed to find the net on 84 occasions, which gives an average of 2 goals per match. Villa drew their previous match 0-0 with Everton, and this was the first time in over 90 Premier League matches in charge that Emery's team did not score. If you want to back both teams to score, then BetUk Sports are offering odds of 1.54.
- Tip 3: Ezri Konsa to be booked: Villa have picked up far too many yellow cards for my liking this season, so those who like to place yellow card bets should take a look at some of their players. I would recommend that you consider putting a bet on Ezri Konsa to pick up a booking as he currently has 9 yellow cards to his name. He has been playing at right back, where he perhaps lacks the pace to keep up with some of the league's fastest winners. BetUk are offering good odds of 5.60 for Konsa to be booked.
- Tip 4: Bet on Villa to win 2-1: If you like to bet on the correct result and think that Villa will win 2-1, then Betiton Sport are offering odds of 7.80 for this market.
1️⃣Aston Villa Update
There were high hopes for Villa ahead of the season opener back in August, but these were somewhat dashed when they were thrashed 5-1 by Newcastle and lost Tyrone Mings to a lengthy spell on the sidelines. However, they put that defeat behind them, and have been one of the teams of the season so far. Emery has got them firing on all cylinders, and they will be disappointed if they do not at least qualify for the Champions League. They have become very hard to beat, and always seem to snatch something from a match.

Emery, like most managers towards the end of last year, did have several injury issues to contend with, but those seem to be easing up a little. You can see the missing players for this clash in the following table:
Player | Reason |
---|---|
Tyrone Mings | Cruciate Ligament Tear |
Emiliano Buendia | Cruciate Ligament Tear |
Jacob Ramsey | Hamstring |
Bertrand Traore | International Duty |
2️⃣Newcastle Update
Eddie Howe took to managing Newcastle like a duck to water, but it is fair to say that the past two to three months have been hard for him and his team. They were knocked out of Europe completely after finishing bottom of a ridiculously hard group, and then they started losing in the league, drifting slowly down the table and away from a place in Europe next season. However, they are slowly getting their injured players back, and I am sure that they will put their poor form behind them, which has seen them lose five out of their last six games, and start climbing the table.

Howe still has a good number of players out injured, but the medical team at Saint James' Park is at least seeing their workload slightly decrease. Below you can see the list of players that not available or are doubtful for this match at Villa Park:
