The second match of Group E at the 2024 European Championship will see Belgium take on Slovakia at the Frankfurt Arena - you do not need to be some sort of genius to guess the city in which this stadium is located. Belgium, it must be said, were very lucky with the draw as they got the easiest group out of all six since it also includes Romania and Ukraine. They will be expected to top the group with ease, but can Slovakia go on to cause a big upset? Keep reading this prediction to find out my match winner as well as some top pieces of betting advice.
🏆 Belgium vs Slovakia: Who Will Win?
Belgium have competed at the previous two European Championships and were knocked out in the Quarter-Final stages on both occasions. Before that, you will probably be surprised to hear that they failed to qualify for three consecutive editions of this tournament - well, I was as I have always considered Belgium to be one of the top European teams. Belgium are the seventh favourite to win the 2024 edition, but I do think their odds are too long as in Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, Youri Tielemans, Axel Witsel, Leandro Trossard, and Jeremy Doku they have quality in abundance.
This will be the third time in a row that Slovakia are competing at the European Championships as an independent nation. In 2016 they made it to the last 16 while in the 2020 edition, they got knocked out in the group stage. With the group that they have been drawn into, they will be quietly confident of being able to finish in second place and book themselves a place in the Round of 16. They showed their quality during the qualifiers as they gave Portugal, the fourth favourites to win the title, a run for their money in both matches.
I reckon that they will also give Belgium a good game, but I just cannot see anything other than a Belgium win in this game as their overall better quality should come to the fore across the 90 minutes. As for the scoreline of this match, I am going to go for a 2-1 win for Belgium.
My Prediction: 🏆 Belgium 2 Slovakia 1 ⚽
💯 Belgium vs Slovakia Match Odds
Due to the number of new UK betting sites and established ones that will offer odds and markets for this prestigious competition, it can be hard to find the best bookmaker for you to sign up with so that you can start putting down some bets. You should never have to settle for mediocrity in the sports betting world, which is where I enter the equation.
Below I have given you five top bookies and the odds that they are currently offering for three of my favourite football betting markets - these are the match winner, over/under 2.5 goals, and both teams to score. Those who want to find out more about these five bookmakers before you register can find some quality information about each one on our bookmaker reviews section.
🏅 Belgium vs Slovakia: Match Winner Odds
These two nations have only ever played three international friendlies against each other, with their last meeting being way back in 2013. The first two matches between them ended in a 1-1 draw, while the second match saw Belgium come out on top 2-1. Sometimes we can use previous results to predict what might happen when the teams next clash, but these games happened too long ago to get any useful information out of them.
Belgium, as you probably expected, are the big favourites for this match. My selected bookies are not giving Slovakia much hope of getting even a draw out of this match. If you like to place match winner wagers, then check out the recent match winner odds in the following table:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Belgium | 1.43 | 1.43 | 1.45 | 1.43 | 1.45 |
Draw | 4.40 | 4.40 | 4.33 | 4.25 | 4.50 |
Slovakia | 6.60 | 6.60 | 7.00 | 5.75 | 6.25 |
⚽ Belgium vs Slovakia: Both Teams To Score Odds
When it comes to the both teams to score markets in international football, I have found that the bookmakers like to sit on the fence. The odds for "Yes" and "No" are usually quite similar, which is actually good for us football bettors since it provides us with higher odds that we can try and take advantage of.
This Belgium vs Slovakia match is no exception to the above as the bookies are more or less sitting exactly on the fence. If you are thinking about putting money down on this market, then you can check out the BTTS odds in the following table:
BTTS | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 1.86 | 1.86 | 1.85 | 1.78 | 1.84 |
No | 1.84 | 1.84 | 1.85 | 1.83 | 1.89 |
🥅 Belgium vs Slovakia: Over/Under 2.5 Goals Odds
The bookies are quite often also undecided when it comes to the over/under 2.5 goals odds in international football. However, for this match, they believe that there is a pretty good chance that there will be at least three goals scored in this game. Since the odds for BTTS are quite even, it tells us that the bookies believe that Belgium could go on and win this match by a 3-0 scoreline.
I also believe that there will be over 2.5 goals in this match, but they will not all go to Belgium. Those who want to place a wager on the total number of goals in this match can find the best odds around in the table below:
Over/Under 2.5 Goals | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 | 1.69 | 1.69 | 1.73 | 1.64 | 1.68 |
Under 2.5 | 2.02 | 2.02 | 2.10 | 2.04 | 2.12 |
✔️ Belgium vs Slovakia - Betting Tips
Now that I have provided you with the odds that my five selected bookmakers are offering at the moment for three top markets, the next thing that I am going to do in this betting guide is provide you with some of my top betting tips for this Belgium vs Slovakia game.
Now, nobody is forcing you to make use of my betting tips, but I do recommend that you get into the habit of checking out the views of others before placing a bet with your own money or free bet. The more knowledge you have, the more educated a bet you can place.
- Tip 1: Bet on Belgium to win in an accy: Belgium have quality all the way through their squad and they should have enough to overcome a stubborn Slovakia team that has nowhere near the same type of quality. Slovakia will sit deep and look to score on the counter, but Belgium will breach their defences a couple of times as de Bruyne and Tielemans will pull the strings in the middle of the park. The odds of a Belgium win are too short for a single bet, but you can think about adding them to an accumulator. You can find odds of 1.45 at 10Bet Sport.
- Tip 2: Bet on both teams to score: While Belgium's defence is solid, it is certainly not the best defence in the competition, and teams will be confident about being able to cause them several issues. Slovakia showed during their qualifying campaign that they can score goals, averaging 1.70 per match, so I am backing BTTS in this game. If you think this too, then you can find odds of 1.86 at Mr Mega Sport.
- Tip 3: Give Slovakia a two-goal advantage: I think this will be a close game because Slovakia will sit deep and look to frustrate Belgium while trying to take advantage of any breakaways that they manage to go on. If you give the Slovaks a two-goal lead ahead of kick-off, I am sure that they will hypothetically win the match. If the game finished 2-1 to Belgium, for example, Slovakia would win the handicap bet 3-2. You can find odds of 1.50 at LeoVegas Sports.
- Tip 4: Back Belgium to win the match 2-1: I have already explained above what I think will go down in this match, so I am not going to bore you with some repetition. All I am going to say is that if you also think this match will end 2-1 in Belgium's favour, then you can think about making a correct score bet. It is always wise to look at this market since the odds are often quite enticing. Those who want to put money on a 2-1 win for Belgium can find odds of 7.60 at Betiton Sport.
N.B. Always gamble responsibly by setting up a budget with an amount that you know you can afford to potentially lose. Also think about setting up daily, weekly, and monthly deposit limits.
1️⃣Belgium Update
Belgium will have a bit of pressure on them heading into the Group Stage as they will be expected to comfortably finish at the top of the table. However, Belgium are like the England of mainland Europe in the sense that they do not always cope well when the pressure is on. I believe that Belgium have the players to go deep in this competition, but it will be interesting to see how they cope with any pressure, especially in the latter stages.
Belgium were in a qualifying group with Austria, Sweden, Azerbaijan, and Estonia and they finished in first place, one point above Austria. From their eight matches, they picked up six wins and two draws. This was a group that Belgium were never going to falter in. Below you can find their previous five results:
Last 5 Matches | |
---|---|
England2 Belgium2 | 26.03.24 International Friendly |
Ireland0 Belgium0 | 23.03.24 International Friendly |
Belgium5 Azerbaijan0 | 19.11.23 UEFA EURO Qualifiers |
Belgium1 Serbia0 | 15.11.23 International Friendly |
Austria2 Belgium3 | 13.10.23 UEFA EURO Qualifiers |
Domenico Tedesco obviously has no injury issues or suspensions to deal with at the moment, so he will be able to pick the strongest XI that he has available.
2️⃣Slovakia Update
Slovakia will have no pressure on them at this tournament as not many football fans are expecting them to make much of an impact. In fact, not many will bat an eyelid if they fail to make it out of the group. In fact, they sit second from bottom in the outright winners odds, with only Georgia sitting behind them. However, teams should not get complacent when playing Slovakia as they can make themselves hard to beat.
They showed this during the qualifying rounds when they took on Portugal and lost by just one goal in both of the matches. Furthermore, in their last appearance at the Euros, they beat a decent Poland team and drew 0-0 with England in the 2016 edition. They are a dogged team and have the ability to punish any sort of complacency. Below you can find their previous five results:
Last 5 Matches | |
---|---|
Norway1 Slovakia1 | 26.03.24 International Friendly |
Slovakia0 Austria2 | 23.03.24 International Friendly |
Bosnia and Herzogovina1 Slovakia2 | 19.11.23 UEFA EURO Qualifiers |
Slovakia4 Iceland2 | 16.11.23 UEFA EURO Qualifiers |
Luxembourg0 Slovakia1 | 16.10.23 UEFA EURO Qualifiers |
Francesco Calzona, for this first match, should not have any injuries or suspensions to think about when selecting his first XI.
