The third quarter-final of Euro 2024 will see England take on Switzerland at the Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf on the 6th of July at 17:00 GMT. England will be the favourites heading into this match, but the Swiss will know that they stand a really good chance of making it to the last four. Who will win and take one step closer to realising their dream of winning a European title? Keep on reading as I will reveal all of my thoughts below.
🏆 England vs Switzerland Prediction
Despite the rubbish that Gareth Southgate and the likes of Kane, Rice, and Bellingham have been spouting in their post-match interviews, England have been poor in Germany. In fact, I do not think that I am exaggerating when I say that they have been one of the least entertaining teams to watch. The whole world and his dog can see that the balance of the team is off, but Southgate is too stubborn and scared to make the necessary changes. They used their get-out-of-jail card against Slovakia and having one shot on target in 95 minutes is just not acceptable. The anger from the fans stems from the fact that we know that they are much better than what they are showing.
Switzerland do not have the same individual quality that England possess, but they have been playing better football because they have a balanced team. They were just minutes away from beating Germany and sealing a spot at the top of Group A, while they dispatched the reigning champions, Italy, with little to no fuss in the Round of 16. They are not a spectacular team to watch, but they are dogged and their players know exactly what is expected of them from their coach. They will be pretty confident that they can overcome a stuttering England team.
England's match against Slovakia ended all square at the end of 90 minutes, and I can see this match going the same way. Either of the teams could end up sneaking the win in extra time, but my patriotic side is going to back England to make it to another semi-final of a major competition.
My Prediction: 🏆 England 1 Switzerland 1 ⚽
💯 England vs Switzerland Betting Odds
Like I always do in my football predictions, I am now going to give you a mixture of new UK betting sites and established ones that I feel are the best around at the moment for betting on this England vs Switzerland match. Additionally, you can see the odds that they currently have available for three of my favourite markets which are the match winner, both teams to score, and over/under 2.5 goals.
You can head on over to our bookmaker reviews section if you would like to find out more information about any of these bookmakers before you go ahead and financially commit to any of them.
🏅 England vs Switzerland: Match Winner Odds
England and Switzerland have met on a football field a total of 27 times, and England lead the way with 19 wins to Switzerland's three. The other five matches have all ended in a stalemate. The last time that these two teams met was in 2022, and England came out on top 2-1 thanks to goals from Luke Shaw and Harry Kane. Switzerland's consolation goal was notched by Breel Embolo.
The bookmakers have England as the favourites to win this match which can probably be put down to their reputation and their head-to-head record against the Swiss. If it was based on how both teams have been playing as of late, the match winner odds, which you can see below, would be much closer.
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
England | 2.13 | 2.13 | 2.15 | 2.18 | 2.18 |
Draw | 2.95 | 2.95 | 3.10 | 2.95 | 2.95 |
Switzerland | 3.70 | 3.70 | 3.70 | 3.90 | 3.90 |
⚽ England vs Switzerland: Both Teams To Score Odds
The bookmakers that I have recommended to you do not think that both teams will score in this game. This means that they think England will win to nil, but I am not too sure about that considering the way that they defended at times against Slovakia in the Round of 16. This means that there is some potential value to be had here. Below you can take a gander at the both teams to score odds:
BTTS | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 2.07 | 2.07 | 2.10 | 2.04 | 2.10 |
No | 1.68 | 1.68 | 1.67 | 1.58 | 1.64 |
🥅 England vs Switzerland: Over/Under Goals Odds
Since the bookmakers do not think that both teams will score, it stands to reason that they are pretty adamant that there will not be over 2.5 goals in this match. They are backing England to win to nil, and it would be one of the surprises of the tournament if they were to slap three goals past the Swiss. If you like betting on the total goals market, then check out the over/under 2.5 goals odds below:
Over/Under 2.5 Goals | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 | 2.47 | 2.47 | 2.55 | 2.60 | 2.65 |
Under 2.5 | 1.47 | 1.47 | 1.50 | 1.42 | 1.47 |
✔️ England vs Switzerland Betting Tips
Now that I have given you some top England vs Switzerland odds to ponder ahead of the game, this betting guide will now focus on providing you with some top England vs Switzerland betting tips.
Even if you will be using some free bets to place a wager on this match, I still highly recommend that you get yourself into the habit of finding out what some top tipsters think before you go ahead and finalise your bets. The more knowledge that you have, the higher your chances of success - although nothing can be guaranteed when sports betting. You should not use a free bet as an excuse to slap down a bet that has a small chance of winning.
- Tip 1: Bet on a draw: England have been playing super defensive football at this tournament, which is strange as they have some of the best attacking players in the world. The Swiss were minutes away from keeping a clean sheet against Germany and kept Italy at bay with ease. This will be one of those attritional games with few clear-cut chances and I can see it being a stalemate at the end of 90 minutes. Those who agree can find odds of 3.10 at 10Bet Sport.
- Tip 2: Bet on both teams to score: The bookies are pretty adamant that both teams will not score and that England will win this game to nil, but I just do not see that happening. Their defence was all over the place at times against Slovakia and only a late individual piece of brilliance from Bellingham prevented England from leaving the competition early. The Swiss are better than Slovakia, so it is hard to see England keeping them out. If you think both teams will score, then you can find odds of 2.10 at BetUK Sports.
- Tip 3: Bet on under 2.5 goals: Matches between England and Switzerland are usually pretty tight affairs, and I see this one being no different. It will be an arm wrestle from start to finish with few guilt-edged scoring opportunities available. Death and taxes are certain in life, and we can add this game finishing with fewer than three goals after 90 minutes as another certainty. 10Bet Sport are offering odds of 1.50 for there to be under 2.5 goals.
- Tip 4: Bet on a 1-1 scoreline after 90 minutes: I have already explained my reasoning as to why this match will be a low-scoring draw, and if you want to try and take advantage of some higher odds you should check out the correct score market. Betiton Sport offers some of the best odds for this market, and at the moment you can get odds of 5.55 for a 1-1 draw.
N.B. Whenever you gamble you need to remember to do so responsibly. I suggest that you create a budget with an amount that you know you can afford to lose and stick to it. You should also consider setting up some deposit limits.
1️⃣England Update
To say that England have underperformed in Germany so far would be one of the understatements of the year. Apart from 30 minutes or so against Serbia in their opening game, they have been pretty abject, to say the least. This really is not surprising when you consider the manager that they have - Southgate is extremely negative in his team selection and his substitutions, and this is having a big impact on the quality of their performances. We can all see the changes that need to be made, but Southgate is too stubborn to make the necessary changes. If he fields more or less the same team that struggled against Slovakia, then this is going to be another tough watch for England fans.
For me, Anthony Gordon needs to start on the left wing. Southgate has shoe-horned Foden there in order to get him in the team, but he has been useless at best as that is not his natural position. Gordon was Newcastle's best player last season and has the pace and skill to create the width that England need down the left flank. Cole Palmer also needs to start as he is pure quality and always tries to go forward with the ball, but both will be warming the bench once again. Below are England's previous five results:

2️⃣Switzerland Update
Switzerland have been playing some top football in this competition and ran Germany all of the way in their final game of Group A. However, they drew 1-1 with Scotland, which tells us that they can have their off day as well which will give England fans plenty of hope. If Switzerland play the same way that they did against the Scots, then England should go on to win the match. The Swiss attack and defend in numbers, so England will need to be on the same page in order to prevent the Swiss from running riot.
The key man for Switzerland is Granit Xhaka as he is the man that runs the show in the middle of the pitch. Italy could get nowhere close to him in their Round of 16 clash, and he had a field day. Declan Rice will need to stick to him and mark him out of the game because when he is quiet, Switzerland are not as good. Below you can see their previous five results:
