The second match of the 2024 European Championship sees Hungary take on Switzerland on the 15th of June at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne. These two teams are in a group alongside Scotland and Germany , so they know that it is important to pick up a win here to keep the pressure on the Scots - for me, Germany will top the group with ease, so the other three teams are playing for the second automatic spot in the knockout rounds. Read on to find out who I think will pick up the points that are on offer in this match.
🏆 Hungary vs Switzerland: Who Will Win?
This will be the 5th time that Hungary will be playing at the European Championships, and they will be looking to at least emulate their 2016 performance where they made it to the Round of 16. However, I think they have the talent to make it into the quarter-finals as they have improved considerably in recent years - just ask England who lost 1-0 and 4-0 to them in the Nations League in 2022. They are definitely not a team that others will take lightly, especially since they managed to top their Euro 2024 qualifying group.
The Swiss have appeared at five European Championships, with their best performance coming in 2020 when they made it to the Quarter-Finals - they took Spain to penalties but were eliminated. The Swiss will be pretty confident about being able to match their 2020 showing as they have some top players in the shape of Yann Sommer (Inter), Manuel Akanji (Man City), Granit Xhaka (Bayer Leverkusen), and Xherdan Shaqiri (Chicago Fire) at their disposal.
For me, these two teams are evenly matched, so it is not easy to predict a winner for this game. As a result, I am going to predict a draw as I reckon both teams will be a little careful as nobody wants to lose their opening match of a tournament. As for the scoreline, I will go for a 1-1.
My Prediction: 🏆 Hungary 1 Switzerland 1 ⚽
💯 Hungary vs Switzerland Odds
You will not struggle to find established and new betting sites that offer odds for this match because it is part of one of the world's most popular football events, but you should never settle for mediocre. You will want to place your football bets with the best bookmakers so that you can ensure that you are getting the most value from your money.
With this in mind, below you will find five quality bookmakers and the odds that they are offering for three very popular football betting markets. If you think any of these bookies are ideal for you but you want to find out more before you sign up with them, you can do exactly that by heading over to our bookmaker reviews page.
🏅 Hungary vs Switzerland: Winner Odds
These two nations have played 46 games against each other in their history, with Hungary having won 30 games to Switzerland's 11 - there has been a total of five draws. However, these teams have not played against each other since a World Cup Qualifier in 2017, which the Swiss won 5-2. Since it has been seven years since they last played, I do not think that their head-to-head record can be used to predict a winner in this match.
Switzerland are the favourites to win this game, but the fact that their match winner odds are above 2.00 tell us that the bookies have not ruled Hungary out of the equation. If you are considering betting on the match winner for this game, then check out the odds in the table below:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Hungary | 3.10 | 3.10 | 3.10 | 3.25 | 3.35 |
Draw | 3.40 | 3.40 | 3.45 | 3.25 | 3.35 |
Switzerland | 2.16 | 2.16 | 2.20 | 2.14 | 2.20 |
⚽ Hungary vs Switzerland: Both Teams To Score Odds
Sometimes the bookmakers will be pretty certain that both teams will score or that only one team will score, and other times they will be more or less sitting on the fence. For this match, it is fair to say that they are basically sitting on the fence. I can understand why as this is one of those matches that is hard to predict in more ways than one as they are so very evenly matched.
If you want to place a BTTS bet, then check out the both teams to score odds in the table below:
BTTS | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 1.76 | 1.76 | 1.76 | 1.68 | 1.73 |
No | 1.96 | 1.96 | 1.95 | 1.93 | 2.00 |
🥅 Hungary vs Switzerland: Over/Under Goals Odds
I do not think that this will be a game that will be full of goals, and this is something that my five selected bookmakers all agree with. Once again, when it comes to the over/under 2.5 goals market, they are clearly unsure as to which way things will go. They have decided on slightly favouring the under 2.5 goals option which, as you can tell from my earlier score prediction, is exactly what I am favouring.
Check out the over/under 2.5 goals odds below if this happens to be your kind of market:
Over/Under 2.5 Goals | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 | 1.94 | 1.94 | 2.00 | 1.88 | 1.95 |
Under 2.5 | 1.75 | 1.75 | 1.80 | 1.75 | 1.81 |
✔️ Hungary vs Switzerland Betting Tips
In this part of my Hungary vs Switzerland betting guide, I will provide you with some top pieces of betting advice for this match. Whether you are betting with your own cash or some free bets that you have acquired, you should always check out some expert betting tips predicted as this can help you to place more educated wagers.
- Tip 1: Bet on a draw: For me, these two teams are very evenly matched and I think that they will end up cancelling each other out on the day. Nobody wants to lose their first game of a big competition, so I think that the Hungarian team and the Swiss team will be content with settling for a point in their opening game. If you also think that they will cancel each other out and that the match will be a draw, then you can find odds of 3.45 at 10Bet Sport.
- Tip 2: Bet on both teams to score: Hungary averaged 2.00 goals per match in their eight qualifying matches, while Switzerland averaged 2.20. Thus, it is clear that neither of these teams have any issues when it comes to finding the back of the net. They will both be pretty confident about being able to breach their opponent's defences in this game, and those of you who, like me, also think the same, can make use of the odds of 1.76 at Mr Mega Sports.
- Tip 3: Add a 1x double chance to an accumulator: If you fancy Hungary's chances of getting something out of this game, but you do not want to back them to win, then you can consider making use of the "Double Chance" option, which allows them to win or draw the match. I personally would consider adding a 1x to an accumulator in order to boost the odds a little bit. If you want to take this advice on board, then you can find odds of 1.57 at LeoVegas Sports.
- Tip 4: Bet on the final score to be 1-1: If you are familiar with my predictions for the English Premier League, then you will already know that I always like to check out the correct score market due to the enticing odds that you can find. I think both teams will score in this game, but neither team will be able to find a winner - I do not even think that they will go all out for it. If you want to back a 1-1 scoreline, then Betiton Sport are currently offering odds of 6.10 at present.
N.B. Make sure to gamble responsibly by betting with money that you know you can afford to potentially lose. Do not get into a habit of chasing your losses as this will usually lead to more lost money.
1️⃣Hungary Euro Update
In the 2020 European Championship, Hungary was placed in one of the toughest groups imaginable as they had to try and overcome France, Germany, and Portugal in order to make it through to the knockout stages. They were eliminated in the Group Stage, but they managed two credible draws against Germany and France. They are currently ranked 26th in the FIFA World Rankings, which clearly indicates how they have been improving in recent years.
They were in a UEFA Euro qualifying group with Serbia, Montenegro, Lithuania, and Bulgaria, winning five and drawing three of the eight matches that they had to play. During these matches they scored a total of 16 goals and only conceded seven, so to say they qualified with ease is a bit of an understatement. Below you can see their previous five results:
Last 5 Matches | |
---|---|
Hungary2 Kosovo0 | 26.03.24 International Friendly |
Hungary1 Turkey0 | 22.03.24 International Friendly |
Hungary3 Montenegro1 | 19.11.24 UEFA EURO Qualifiers |
Bulgaria2 Hungary2 | 16.11.24 UEFA Euro Qualifiers |
Hungary2 Serbia1 | 14.10.24 UEFA Euro Qualifiers |
I usually give you the lowdown on the players who will be missing a match due to suspensions and injuries, but obviously, there is no need to do this at the beginning of a competition.
2️⃣Switzerland Euro Update
Switzerland have always had some decent players that they can call upon, and I actually think they have underachieved on the international stage in recent years. For example, in the FIFA World Cup, they have not made it past the Round of 16 in the previous three editions. Meanwhile, out of five appearances in the European Championship, they have only made it to the last eight on one occasion.
I even think that they underachieved in the qualifiers for the 2024 edition. They were in a group with Romania, Israel, Belarus, Kosovo, and Andorra, and would have been expected to top the group by most football fans. However, they finished five points behind Romania, who are ranked 46th in the world - The Swiss are currently 19th. Below you can see their previous five results:
Last 5 Matches | |
---|---|
Ireland0 Switzerland1 | 26.03.24 International Friendly |
Denmark0 Switzerland0 | 23.03.24 International Friendly |
Romania1 Switzerland0 | 21.11.23 UEFA EURO Qualifiers |
Switzerland1 Kosovo1 | 18.11.24 UEFA EURO Qualifier |
Israel1 Switzerland1 | 15.10.23 UEFA EURO Qualifier |
There are no injuries or suspensions for me to address at the beginning of the tournament.
