Scotland entered Euro 2024 with a lot of optimism and the belief that they could make it out of their group, but a thrashing at the hands of Germany have left them with an awful lot to do if they are to make it out of the Group Stage. They must defeat Switzerland, but will they be able to manage that? Before you go ahead and place any wagers on this crucial Group A match that will be played on the 19th of June at the RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, take the time to read this prediction carefully.
🏆 Scotland vs Switzerland Prediciton: Who Will Win?
Thousands and thousands of Scotland fans travelled to Munich last Friday to watch their team take on Germany in the opening game of Euro 2024, but many probably ended up wishing that they had spent their money on fried Mars bars instead. It was always going to be an uphill task to take any points off of a quality German side, but the way that they wilted will have caused plenty of concern. When Ryan Porteus was red-carded for a horrendous tackle in the box and Kai Havertz slotted the penalty to make it 3-0, the game was all but done at half-time. It is hard to see Scotland performing that badly for a second match in a row, and they should be able to lay some sort of glove on the Swiss.
Switzerland always seem to overachieve at the tournaments that they qualify for, and they have some top players in their ranks. They know that if they can overcome a hurting Scotland team, then they will have basically booked themselves a spot in the Round of 16 and can throw caution to the wind against Germany in their last group game. Against Germany, Scotland allowed Kroos to run the midfield, and Granit Xhaka will be hoping that he is afforded the same type of space.
I can see Scotland giving Switzerland more of a game than they did the Germans, but I still see the Swiss coming out on top in this match. For me, they have more quality than the Scots, and my predicted scoreline for this game is 2-1.
My Prediction: 🏆 Scotland 1 Switzerland 2 ⚽

🏅 Scotland vs Switzerland: Match Winner Odds
Previous recent head-to-head results can come in handy when you are thinking about placing bets on an upcoming game, so who has had the better of things in the past between these two nations? Well, they have played a total of 16 games, with Scotland winning eight and the Swiss winning five. However, in this case, we cannot really use their head-to-head record as any sort of gauge as they last met in 2006.
Given both teams' performances in the opening round of matches, you will not be surprised to hear that the Swiss are the favourites to win. Check out the match winner odds in the following table:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Scotland | 4.30 | 4.30 | 4.20 | 4.60 | 4.60 |
Draw | 3.60 | 3.60 | 3.60 | 3.65 | 3.65 |
Switzerland | 1.76 | 1.76 | 1.80 | 1.78 | 1.78 |
⚽ Scotland vs Switzerland: Both Teams To Score Odds
Regarding international football, many times the bookmakers will be quite unsure as to whether both teams will find the back of the net or not. This is one such match, and I can see why they are struggling to decide - Scotland did not really show much attacking quality against Germany. This is maybe why, as you can see below, my five bookies are slightly favouring both teams not scoring in this game.
BTTS | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 1.91 | 1.91 | 1.93 | 1.85 | 1.92 |
No | 1.80 | 1.80 | 1.77 | 1.72 | 1.77 |
🥅 Scotland vs Switzerland: Over/Under 2.5 Goals Odds
When it comes to the total goals market, the bookmakers do not believe that there will be over 2.5 goals scored in this game. They do think that there will be over 1.5 goals, and these odds, alongside their BTTS odds, tell us that they believe that the most likely outcome of this game is a 2-0 win for Switzerland. Those who want to bet on this market can find the over/under 2.5 goals odds below:
Over/Under 2.5 Goals | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 | 2.03 | 2.03 | 2.00 | 1.96 | 2.02 |
Under 2.5 | 1.69 | 1.69 | 1.80 | 1.71 | 1.77 |
✔️ Scotland vs Switzerland Betting Tips
Now that you know the Scotland vs Switzerland odds that my favourite bookies are offering for three popular markets, this betting guide is now going to focus on four of my top Scotland vs Switzerland betting tips.
Whether you are thinking about betting on this match with your own hard-earned money or a free bet that you have accrued, it is always worth checking out what some experienced football tipsters are predicting.
- Tip 1: Bet on Switzerland to win: I do not see Scotland being as bad as they were against the Germans in this match, but I was actually pretty impressed with how Switzerland dealt with Hungary. They controlled most of the match and thoroughly deserved their 3-1 victory. Regarding quality, only Andy Robertson and John McGinn could probably get into Switzerland's starting XI, so the Swiss will be confident of winning. If you think they will win, then 10Bet Sport are offering odds of 1.80 at present.
- Tip 2: Bet on both teams to score: The bookmakers do not reckon that both teams will score in this match, but this means that there is some betting value to be had. Scotland will be smarting from their humiliation at the hands of Germany, and I think they have enough quality to breach the Swiss defence at least once to give their fans something to cheer about. If you think Scotland have what it takes to get on the scoresheet, then 10Bet are offering odds of 1.93.
- Tip 3: Bet on over 2.5 goals to be scored: The bookmakers are backing under 2.5 goals in this game, so I see plenty of value in this market. I would not say that either of these teams are excellent defensively, so I can see there being three goals in this match. If you are of the same belief, then at the moment you can find odds of 2.02 at BetUK Sports.
- Tip 4: Bet on a 2-1 win for Switzerland: You all know by now that I think Switzerland will win this match 2-1 as I just feel that they have more quality in their squad, and those who agree with me can find odds of 7.60 at Betiton Sport.
N.B. Always ensure that you gamble responsibly. I suggest that you set up a daily, weekly, or monthly deposit limit.
1️⃣Scotland Update
The excitement among those of a Scottish persuasion could be felt all around Munich on Friday evening ahead of their evening kick-off against Germany, but the optimism lasted all of ten minutes as Florian Wirtz opened the scoring. Things got even worse nine minutes later when Musiala scored, and the game was all but over at half-time when Porteus was sent off, and Havertz dispatched the penalty. Even their consolation goal was scored by a German.
Overall, it was a really embarrassing performance from what some believe to be one of the best Scotland teams of all time. Below you can see their previous five results:

Steve Clarke will be without Ryan Porteous for this match as he is serving a suspension for his straight red card.
2️⃣Switzerland Update
Switzerland are one of the favourites to qualify from Group A behind Germany, and they lived up to this billing by putting in a very solid display against Hungary. The Hungarians have caused some big teams several issues in recent years, so this 3-1 win will have given them a lot of confidence - not good news if you are a Scotland fan.
They are not a flashy team, but they manage to do all of the basics right, which makes them a hard team to play against. They do not give their opponents anything, so opposing teams always need to work hard to earn the right to beat them. Below are their previous five results:
