The Group Stage of Euro 2024 is now over and 16 teams still have their dreams of lifting the trophy intact. We are now into knockout football, so there is no room for any mistakes - one defeat and a team can kiss goodbye to their hopes of winning the title. The first Round of 16 match will see Switzerland take on Italy at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on the 29th of June at 17:00 GMT. Who will book a spot in the last eight? This prediction aims to answer this question and more.
🏆 Switzerland vs Italy Prediction
I expected the Swiss to finish in the top two in Group A, but they were just a few minutes away from topping the group as they were leading Germany 1-0 with injury time remaining. However, in hindsight, they will be glad that they did not win Group A as it means that they avoided the half of the draw that includes Spain, France, and Portugal. They will have been disappointed with their 1-1 draw against Scotland, but against Hungary and Germany, they showed us what a well-built unit they are.
Italy were in the Group of Death, and it was always going to be between them and Croatia for the second spot - Spain are just a level above both of these teams at the moment. The Italians beat Albania, got a bit of a footballing lesson from Spain, and were just seconds away from losing to Croatia and having to wait to see if they were one of the best third-placed teams. However, a last-second equaliser saw them finish as the runners-up of Group B.
Many will probably back Italy to win this match, but the Swiss will be quietly confident of coming out on top and making it through to the Quarter-Finals. I think Switzerland have played better than Italy, so I am actually going to back them to win this clash 2-1.
My Prediction: 🏆 Switzerland 2 Italy 1 ⚽
💯 Switzerland vs Italy Betting Odds
There will be plenty of Brits putting their hard-earned money on the Round of 16 matches, and there are plenty of bookmakers that will offer a range of markets and competitive odds. Not all bookies have been created equally though, so below I have provided you with some top new UK betting sites and established ones that are definitely worth checking out before betting on this Switzerland vs Italy match.
I know that you might want to find out more about these betting sites before you financially commit to them, and you can find all that you could possibly need to know in our bookmaker reviews section.
🏅 Switzerland vs Italy: Match Winner Odds
Switzerland and Italy have played each other a total of 60 times, and Italy have 29 wins under their belt compared to Switzerland's seven. This means that they have drawn a total of 24 matches. They last met back in 2021 for FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and both of these games ended in a tense 1-1.
You can tell from the match winner odds that the bookmakers are not entirely sure as to which way this match will go. They have Italy as the favourites ahead of kick-off, but the Swiss have not been ruled out by a long shot. Check out the match winner odds in the table below:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Switzerland | 3.20 | 3.20 | 3.20 | 3.30 | 3.30 |
Draw | 2.87 | 2.87 | 2.95 | 2.90 | 2.90 |
Italy | 2.39 | 2.39 | 2.40 | 2.48 | 2.48 |
⚽ Switzerland vs Italy: Both Teams To Score Odds
The bookmakers are pretty sure that both teams will not score in this match, which is something that surprises me. This is good for those of us who think the opposite as it means that there is a value bet to be had here. If you want to bet on this market, then check out the both teams to score odds in the table below:
BTTS | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Yes | 1.98 | 1.98 | 2.00 | 1.92 | 1.98 |
No | 1.74 | 1.74 | 1.73 | 1.67 | 1.73 |
🥅 Switzerland vs Italy: Over/Under Goals Odds
Since the bookies are not entirely sure as to which way this match will go but are pretty confident that both teams will not score, it is no great surprise to see that they are quite sure that there will not be over 2.5 goals scored in this match. As you know from my previous score prediction, I can see three goals being scored in this game. Those who want to bet on the total goals market can find the odds below:
Over/Under 2.5 Goals | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Over 2.5 | 2.41 | 2.41 | 2.50 | 2.38 | 2.45 |
Under 2.5 | 1.49 | 1.49 | 1.50 | 1.49 | 1.54 |
✔️ Switzerland vs Italy Betting Tips
Now that you know some of the top Switzerland vs Italy odds ahead of kick-off, I am now going to use this betting guide to provide you with four of my top Switzerland vs Italy betting tips.
When you put down a free bet or a real money wager, you need to get into a habit of gambling responsibly. To do this, you can set up a budget with an amount that you know you can afford to lose and make sure that you stick to it. You can also think about setting up daily, weekly, and monthly deposit limits.
- Tip 1: Bet on Switzerland to win: Italy are the favourites ahead of this Round of 16 clash, but Switzerland have the quality to make life hard for the reigning champions. In general, I feel that the Swiss have played better football than the Italians, and they showed against Germany that they can compete against the big boys. Italy are a shadow of what they used to be, so I would not be surprised to see Switzerland come out on top. Those who want to back a Swiss win can find odds of 3.30 at BetUK Sports.
- Tip 2: Bet on both teams to score: The bookies do not see both teams scoring in this match, but I do not see either team keeping a clean sheet. Both teams have enough attacking talent to find the back of the net, although I do think that Italy's lack of a top-quality striker will come back to bite them eventually. If you want to bet on BTTS, then 10Bet Sport are offering odds of 2.00 at the moment.
- Tip 3: Back over 2.5 goals: My five selected bookmakers do not believe that there will be over 2.5 goals scored in this game, but I beg to differ. For me, this is one of those games that just screams a 2-1 final result, so I will definitely be making use of the heightened odds for over 2.5 goals. At this moment in time, 10Bet Sport are offering odds of 2.50.
- Tip 4: Bet on a 2-1 win for Switzerland: If you also think that this match will end 2-1 in Switzerland's favour, for the same reasons as me or for your own reasons, then you can place a bet on this scoreline being correct. At Betiton Sport you can find odds of 11.00 for such a scoreline.
1️⃣Switzerland Update
Switzerland finished second in Group A thanks to a win against Hungary and two draws against Germany and Scotland. They would have been a bit embarrassed by their draw against the Scots, but that will now be put behind them as they know that they have a genuine chance of making it through to the last eight - they are also on the "easier" side of the draw, so a trip to the semi-finals is not out of the realms of possibility.
Their most important player is Granit Xhaka as he is the stalwart in the middle of the pitch. Everything good for the Swiss usually comes through him in one way or another. If Italy cannot keep a lid on him, then he will run the show and cause plenty of damage. Below are their last five results:
Last 5 Matches | |
---|---|
Switzerland1 Germany1 | 23.06.24 UEFA Euro 2024 |
Scotland1 Switzerland1 | 19.06.24 UEFA Euro 2024 |

Muray Yakin is missing one player as he picked up two yellow cards in the Group Stage, and you can see who this missing player is below:

Silvan Widmer | Disciplinary Points |
2️⃣Italy Update
Italy are the reigning champions, but they have not shown me anything as of yet that suggests to me that they have what it takes to go on and retain their title. Like most Italian teams, they are pretty solid at the back, especially with Donnarumma in goal, but they do not have the firepower up front that they used to. While other players can chip in with goals, you need a quality striker if you are to overcome the big boys such as Spain and Germany.
The Italian player that the Swiss will probably be most wary of is Barella as the Inter Milan midfielder is a pivotal cog in Italy's midfield. Not only is he very good on the ball, but he can also pick a pass and break up any dangerous play that is brewing. Below you can find their previous five results:
Last 5 Matches | |
---|---|
Croatia1 Italy1 | 24.06.24 UEFA Euro 2024 |
Spain1 Italy0 | 19.06.24 UEFA Euro 2024 |
