grand-national-2024-prediction

It is that time of year when those who are not even big fans of horse racing turn their attention to the sport, which can only mean one thing. The Grand National is upon us. In this prediction, I am going to put all of my horse racing knowledge to use and give you the name of the horse that I think will be victorious in the 2024 Grand National on the 13th of April.

🏇 Grand National 2024 Betting Preview

The Grand National, which is run at the popular Aintree Racecourse every year, first took place in 1839, and it was won by Lottery, who was the 5/1 favourite. Since its conception, it has become one of the world's most valuable and prestigious races, with the winners landing a cheque worth £500,000. To give you an idea as to just how popular this race has become, it has been estimated that around £200 million will be bet on it this year.

Below I am going to take a closer look at three runners who I feel stand the best chance of being victorious this year. You will find out about their pros and cons as no horse is perfect. Below each horse, you will also find the Grand National 2024 odds that three of my favourite UK bookies are offering.

1️⃣Corach Rambler

Corach Rambler is looking to emulate Tiger Roll and Red Rum by winning this big race back-to-back, which is something that has rarely been done. He showed good form in the recently run Cheltenham Gold Cup, where he finished in third place behind two top chasers. He seems to love racing at this time of year as his form across March and April stands at 31111. He will have a higher handicap than he did last year, but it is not surprising that he is the heavy favourite.

Some bettors might be a little put off by the stat that eight of the last 11 winners were aged seven, eight, or nine - Corach Rambler is now ten years old. Furthermore, that gruelling run in the aforementioned Cheltenham Gold Cup could have left its mark. We will just have to wait and see.

2️⃣ I Am Maximus

I Am Maximums has been trained by Willie Mullins, who happens to be one of the most successful trainers in the horse racing world. He garnered everyone's attention when he defeated Vanillier by 14 lengths at Fairhouse in March. He will be quite fresh for this race as he has not had many races this year, but one thing to keep in mind is the fact that he has never run the Grand National before.

He will have the backing of many punters, but all of his victories since 2021 have been at Fairyhouse. When he is running elsewhere, he has struggled to replicate his Fairyhouse form and has suffered some big losses. There is every chance that he will run well on Saturday, but there is also a chance that the occasion will get to him and he will flop.

3️⃣ Vanillier

Vanillier looked out of the running in the 2023 Grand National, but a strong finish saw him finish in second place, just three lengths behind Corach Rambler. This year, he will be carrying just four pounds more, so this should not be too much of a burden on him.

Over the previous 12 months, he has run in just four races, so he should be pretty fresh heading into one of the biggest races of the horse racing calendar. He lost heavily to I Am Maximus the last time that they met, but I would not read too much into this as it was likely just him getting a bit of rust out of his system. His main aim is to win the 2024 Grand National, so he was never going to race in many races at the start of this year.

N.B. Those who want to find out more about Betiton, LeoVegas, or BetUK can do so over on our bookmaker reviews page. You can also find many other top bookies available to British punters.

📊 Grand National Winners

When you are contemplating gambling on a horse race, you should always take the time to check out past winners since experience plays a huge role usually in who the winner is. Furthermore, the trainer and the jockey also play a big part in a horse's success in a race, so it is important not to overlook these either. So, with this firmly in mind, below I have given you the last eight winners of this big race.

🏆 2024 Grand National Prediction

In the last 100 years, there have only been three horses that have won back-to-back Grand Nationals, while the favourite has only gone on to win 11 times. Such stats will probably make you reconsider betting on Corach Rambler, but I would recommend betting on him to enter the history books on Saturday afternoon. If he is victorious, then he will become the first horse to win the Grand National back-to-back as the favourite.

Not only is he in a rich vein of form at present, but he is also one of the best jumpers on the circuit. At the risk of jinxing him, he is yet to fall in any race. His build-up to the 2024 Grand National has been pretty similar to the 2023 edition, and he is even a few pounds lighter this time. Additionally, with just 34 runners this year, the chances of him getting brought down by a stray runner will be less.

I would not be surprised if Vanillier or I Am Maximus were to go on and win the race, but I cannot look beyond betting on Corach Rambler as he is the form horse and full of confidence. It will take a good performance to stop him from claiming glory.

My 2024 Grand National Prediction: Corach Rambler to win.

⭐ Grand National Betting Tips

Now that I have provided you with my Grand National predictions ahead of the big race, I am going to end this prediction by giving you some top horse racing betting tips to keep in mind when you are selecting your winner. There are plenty of trends to look at that can give a solid understanding as to who has a really good chance of winning.

Age

An important thing to check out is the horse's age. The Aintree Racecourse fences require a certain maturity that only comes with age and experience. Therefore, I suggest that you forget about betting on horses that are younger than eight or older than ten. From the last ten winners of the Grand National, only three winners have fallen outside of this age bracket - Noble Yeats (7), Pineau De Re (11) and Auroras Encore (11).

Aintree Factor

It makes a huge difference if the horse that you decide to back has raced on the Aintree track before and performed well. It gives them an even bigger advantage if they have managed to complete the infamous Grand National fences. Thus, if they have taken part in the Grand National, Becher Chase, or Topham Chase in the past and completed the race, you know that they are good jumpers and are worth considering.

Weight

The handicap system is there to try and level the playing field - or running field, in this case. Therefore, the horses that are considered to be better than their rivals will have to carry more weight on them. When we take a look at previous stats from past Grand National races, we see that horses that have to carry 11 stone and 3 pounds or more tend to struggle. There have only been four horses that have managed to overcome such a handicap.

Something to keep in mind when deciding on who to bet on is that eight of the last ten Grand National winners have weighed in at 10-13 or less.

Form

When it comes to form, you have to pay attention to how a horse has been performing over the last couple of seasons. If a horse has pulled up consistently or tends to fall regularly, then you should not consider putting money on them to win as the odds of them doing so again will be short.

For instance, before his Grand National win in 2024, Pineau De Re had only fallen two times in two years and had never pulled out. On the other hand, Battlegroup, before the same Grand National, refused to run in one race and pulled up in two. Thus, it was not a surprise to many when he refused to budge from the starting line when the big race rolled around.
