Since launching in 1868, not many horses have won the race twice, excluding famous Prince Charlie who has bagged three wins. He wasn’t that successful in the 2023 season but made a winning start at Thirsk last month.

While the Archie Watson-trained runner failed to impress in his reappearance at Musselburgh, it did bounce back under a good ride from Connor Murtagh. I see Shartash as a top contender for a group one race at Royal Ascot, just one place lower than Kinross and Mill Stream in terms of odds at BetUK.

My money is on Kinross to put in enough of a performance to pip the others at the post, but I can see why some bettors may be edgy about this prospect, given that he has not had many recent top-three finishes. For that reason, I think I would flirt more with the idea of an each-way bet instead of taking on the extra risk of an outright win.

I also like the look of Mill Stream for this race after an impressive Duke of York Stakes win, but with my favourite, Kinross, set in stone, Mill Stream would have to go down as an each-way bet for me.
