France
It would have been hard for France fans to watch South Africa win the 2023 World Cup on French soil, especially since it was their best chance of lifting the Webb Ellis trophy for the first time. France got knocked out in the last eight by Siya Kolisi and his men, and they will feel that it was a huge missed opportunity.
France have a young squad, so they have many chances to improve, but they will be missing some very important players for this edition of the competition. For example, Antoine Dupont is going to sit out as he is going to focus on representing France at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and it has been rumoured that others will be joining him. Despite this, France are still the early favourites to win the title, and they will be eager to put the disappointment of the Rugby World Cup firmly behind them.
Ireland
Andy Farrell steered Ireland to their second Grand Slam in the space of five years in 2023, and it looked like the best possible preparation for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. They performed very well during the Group Stage but buckled under the pressure in the Quarter-Finals once again. This is one of the best teams that Ireland have mustered, and they could still not make it to their first semi-final.
Ireland will enter the 2024 6 Nations without Johnny Sexton leading the way as he decided to retire after their disappointing exit from the Rugby World Cup. Jack Crowley will likely be his replacement, and it will be exciting to see if he can fill the huge boots that Sexton left behind. Other than that change, the squad will be more or less the same, and many of their players are at their peak. Their first game of the competition is against France in Paris, and this could end up being the match that determines the eventual winners.
England
There would not have been many rugby fans that would have predicted England to be the top team from the Northern Hemisphere at the Rugby World Cup. Furthermore, not many would have predicted them to finish in third place and be just one point away from making it through to the final. Their over-achievement sealed Borthwick's spot as their head coach for the 2024 6 Nations.
England will have several new faces in their squad as many players have opted to move to France due to financial problems in the English Premiership. As a result, they will not be eligible for an England call-up. Furthermore, Courtney Lawes, Johnny May, and Ben Youngs have hung up their boots. It is tricky to predict how a much-changed England will perform, but do not expect anything particularly entertaining under Borthwick. In all honesty, they will probably just use this edition to sort out their future identity.
Scotland
Scotland will enter the 2024 Six Nations in a bit of a strange predicament. They did not make it out of the Group Stage of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, but they have opted to put their trust in Gregor Townsend. Last year's tournament showed us how far this Scotland team has come since they finished just beneath Ireland and France. Although they were not that impressive in France, this is a really good Scotland team.
The Scots will not be able to call upon Stuart Hogg as he recently retired, while the likes of WP Nel, Richie Gray, Chris Harris, and Hamish Watson are probably going to be playing in their final 6 Nations. They have a lot of depth, and with Wales and England looking to rebuild, they will be looking at going one better than they did last year. Scotland will play France and England at home, so there is a chance that they will go to Ireland in the final round with their Grand Slam hopes still intact. Whatever happens though, this should be an exciting campaign for those of a Scottish persuasion.
Wales
Wales, like England, also exceeded expectations at the previous World Cup. They would have been disappointed with their performance against Argentina in the Quarter-Finals, but not many expected them to qualify from their group. At the moment, a lot is happening in the WRU, and this will be a reset competition for the Welsh.
They will look towards the likes of Christ Tshiunza, Jac Morgan, Dafydd Jenkins, Tommy Reffell, and Dewi Lake to steer Welsh rugby into better times. Dan Biggar has opted to retire, so it will be eager to see how they plug the gap that he left at 10 - they cannot rely on Leigh Halfpenny either since he has also decided to retire. The likes of Liam Williams and George North do not have much playing time left either. There is plenty of optimism among Welsh fans after the 2023 Rugby World Cup showing, and I am interested to see whether they can continue making strides in 2024.
Italy
Nobody expected Italy to pull up trees at the World Cup, but some of their World Cup performances were embarrassing, to say the least. Many hoped that Italy could provide France and New Zealand with a decent game, but they were extremely disappointing. Under Kieran Crowley, they looked like they were heading in the right direction, but he no longer coaches them, so Italy will be led by Gonzalo Quesada during this campaign.
Their poor performances at the Rugby World Cup could be put down to the fact that they had a seriously inexperienced squad. The likes of Paolo Garbisi, Michele Lamaro, Ange Capuozzo, Danilo Fishcetti, and Lorenzo Cannone are under the age of 25, so they have plenty of time to improve. They need to show up at the 2024 Six Nations, or the calls for them to be replaced with Georgia will pop up once again.

Out of England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, I feel that only Ireland has a chance of beating the other three home nations. They have the best team, so will back themselves to win three out of three. However, they will be wary of Scotland as they can beat anyone when playing at their best. Scotland's trip to the Aviva on the last weekend of matches is definitely a game that rugby fans do not want to miss.
No Grand Slam
In 2023, Ireland won all five matches to claim a second Grand Slam in five years, but I do not think that any team will win the Grand Slam this year. Due to how competitive this competition is, I can see each team losing at least once. Each team will need to win some tricky away matches if they are to come away with a clean sweep of the board.
Wales and Italy to Finish Bottom Two
If you want to put money on the two teams that will finish in 5th and 6th, then I would recommend that you put your money on Wales and Italy. For me, Italy are going to finish dead last - something they have done in the eight previous editions. I feel that England and Wales will battle it out for 4th, but I believe that England will beat both Wales and Italy. This would still make for an underwhelming campaign for England, but an expected one when you consider all the changes that they are likely to make.

Total Points Over/Under

📜 History of the Six Nations
The very first Six Nations tournament was held in 1883, which was 12 years after England and Scotland played the first international rugby union game. This competition only included Ireland, England, Wales, and Scotland, so it was known as the Home Nations. This tournament was won by England.
In 1910, France joined the tournament officially - they had competed in four of the previous competitions before becoming officially accepted. With their inclusion, the competition became the Five Nations. They picked up their first trophy in 1959 and dominated throughout the 60s and 70s.
In 2000, the tournament became the Six Nations when Italy was included. They have never come close to picking up the title, and have claimed the wooden spoon on 18 occasions.
💾 Six Nations Competition Format
The Six Nations makes use of a Round Robin format, which means that each team plays each other once, with home matches alternating with each year. The team that gets the most points will go on to pick up the trophy. Two points are given for a win, one point for a draw, and zero points for a loss. A bonus point system was added in 2017, so a team will get an extra point if they score four tries and a losing bonus point if they lose by 7 or fewer points. If a team wins all five matches, then they will get an extra three points to make sure that they cannot lose the title.
