Match prediction 46 of 48 of our Rugby World Cup 2023 betting series.
The second semi-final of the 2023 Rugby World Cup will see England take on South Africa for a spot in the final against either Argentina or New Zealand. Given the form that England were in before the tournament started, some were expecting them to fail in the Group Stage, but they have won all five matches so far. South Africa, on the other hand, always seem to have a quality team, and this should be an entertaining arm wrestle between two powerful teams.
The man with the whistle for this match is Ben O'Keeffe from New Zealand, and his assistants for the day will be Paul Williams (New Zealand) and Andrew Brace (Ireland). The Television Match Official for the day will be Brendon Pickerill, who is also from New Zealand.
These two teams have been playing Test rugby against each other since 1906, and in that time they have played 45 matches against each other. The Springboks are leading the way with 27 wins to England's 16, while there have been two draws. Will England be able to overpower the South African juggernauts, or will the Springboks make it to yet another World Cup final and be one step away from defending their title? Find out all of my thoughts below.
💯 England v South Africa Betting Odds Rugby World Cup
Us rugby betting fans in the UK are spoiled for choice when it comes to rugby markets - betting sites offer plenty of options as they know just how popular a sport rugby is across the British Isles. Out of the many different markets, the three that I am most drawn to include the match winner, 3-way handicap, and Asian handicap. Below you can find the current betting odds that some top bookmakers in the United Kingdom are offering for this England v South Africa game.
If you would like to find out more information about any betting site that I mention in this betting guide, then you can head over to our bookmaker reviews and find out everything that you need to know.
🥇 England v South Africa Match Winner Odds
The bookmakers think that the first semi-final between Argentina v New Zealand will be a one-sided affair, and when you look at the match winner odds that are being offered for this second semi-final, you will see that they also think that England do not stand much chance of making it to another final.
Below you can find the current top odds that some quality bookmakers are offering for this England v South Africa match:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
England | 5.20 | 5.20 | 5.00 | 4.33 | 5.50 |
Tie | 22.25 | 22.25 | 34.00 | 26.00 | 26.00 |
South Africa | 1.13 | 1.13 | 1.17 | 1.13 | 1.17 |
➕ England v South Africa Handicap 3-Way Odds
You might be predicting an easy win for the Springboks but do not like the odds that these top bookmakers are currently offering for them to win. If so, then you can always think about giving South Africa a handicap ahead of kick-off. For those who are new to sports betting, you can give them a points disadvantage to make their odds more satisfactory. Below you can see the current 3-way handicap odds for England v South Africa:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
South Africa (0-11) | - | - | - | - | 1.72 |
South Africa (0-13) | 1.82 | 1.82 | - | - | - |

England (0-13) | 1.88 | 1.88 | - | - | - |
England (0-14) | - | - | 1.91 | - | - |
🏮 England v South Africa Asian Handicap Odds
If you opt to give the Springboks a 13-point deficit for this match, and they go on and win by 13 points, then your bet will be lost as your selected bookmaker will put the game down as a draw. There is a way that you can eliminate the possibility of a theoretical draw, and that is by making use of Asian handicap betting. In the following table, you can find the Asian handicap odds for this second semi-final of the Rugby World Cup:
Team | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
South Africa (-12.5) | - | - | - | - | 1.90 |
South Africa (-13.5) | 1.82 | 1.82 | - | 1.76 | - |
England (+12.5) | - | - | - | - | 1.90 |
England (+13.5) | 1.80 | 1.80 | - | 1.75 | - |
🔍 England v South Africa Prediction
As we saw in the introduction to this prediction, history is firmly on South Africa's side, and I would argue that form is as well, despite the fact that South Africa have lost more matches at this 2023 World Cup than England have. South Africa lost to Ireland, but it must be said that England's side of the draw was much more favourable. South Africa were mightily impressive against the French in the quarter-finals, but England, who are left flying the flag for the Northern Hemisphere once again, will be hoping that it took a lot out of their opponents.
England have played well in parts throughout this competition, but if they want to book themselves a spot in the final, they will have to play at the top of their game for the whole 80 minutes. If they let their concentration slip for even a second, the Springboks will waltz on through without a second invitation.
Not many England fans, or rugby fans for that matter, give England a chance of winning this match, so they can play with the pressure off. In the end, though, I expect South Africa to come out on top and book themselves a spot against New Zealand in the final - South Africa to win by 10-15 points.
My England v South Africa winner prediction: South Africa to win!
✔️ England v South Africa RWC Betting Tips
I will now give you some useful RWC betting tips for this England v South Africa semi-final match. When you decide to bet on sports or do any kind of gambling, please remember to set up a budget with money that you know you can afford to potentially lose, and do not stray from that figure.
1️⃣ Match Winner: South Africa to Win
I think that South Africa will win and book themselves a final spot, but I would not recommend putting any money on this outcome because the odds are just too short. When you have to put down a lot of money in order to have any decent potential winnings, it is not worth the risk as anything can happen in sports.
However, if you still want to put a wager on the winner of this match, then Spreadex Sports currently have odds of 1.17 for a Springboks win.
2️⃣ Handicap Winner: South Africa to Win (-13)
Since I think that South Africa will win this game by 10-15 points, I like the look of the -13-point handicap betting options that some top bookies have available. If you decided to go for this market, then you would require South Africa to win the match by at least 14 points - a win by 13 points would be a theoretical draw. So, if you want to increase South Africa's odds and feel that they will win by 14 points or more, then Betiton are offering odds of 1.82.
3️⃣ Winning Margin
The winning margin market is another betting option that I like in rugby since it usually offers plenty of value and the odds are often enticing. Since I think that the Springboks will win this game by 10-15 points, I think the odds of 5.00 that Spreadex Sports are offering for South Africa to win by 11-15 points are enticing.
