✔️ English Open Snooker Betting Tips 2024
Snooker does not have as many betting markets as other more popular sports like football, rugby, or cricket, but there are still more than enough betting options to keep snooker bettors thoroughly entertained. In this part of my English Open betting guide, I am going to provide you with some top snooker betting tips to keep in mind when you are betting on the English Open snooker tournament or any other snooker competition.
Pay Attention to Form
Before you go ahead and bet on a player to win a match or a competition, you need to check out how they have been performing as of late. Have they been struggling in matches that they should be winning quite comfortably? Have they been romping to victory? Have they made a big jump up or down the rankings?
Top Tip 1: The players at the top of the rankings will, more often than not, beat those who are below them. However, what makes snooker such an entertaining sport is that upsets are not rare. Some punters will back a player simply because of their higher ranking, but form is the main thing to check out. I suggest you never back a player who is out of form.
Check Out the Head-to-Head Record
Snooker players will come up against the same players regularly in their careers, and there will always be a few opponents that they tend to struggle against for one reason or another. It is the same in other sports - for example, in football, every team has a bogey team. I am an Aston Villa fan, and we always struggle to beat United, no matter what type of form we are in heading into the game.
Top Tip 2: Before you back one player to beat another, take a few minutes to check out how they have performed against that particular opponent in the past. If they always seem to struggle against them, do not put your money on them to win, even if they seem to be playing some top snooker. This sport is as much a psychological one as it is a game of skill.
Pay Attention to the Venue
Snooker players are not machines, so they will not be able to rock up at every venue and be able to play with the same quality that they did at a previous one. There will always be those venues that a player much prefers to play snooker at for one reason or another. It could be because they love the atmosphere, or it might be because they are playing at a home venue and have the crowd spurring them on.
Top Tip 3: It is always a wise move to see how a player that you are thinking about backing to win a tournament has performed at that venue in the past. For instance, Ronnie O'Sullivan is one of the greatest snooker players ever and he is hard to beat at any venue, but he always seems to bring his absolute best when he is playing in China at the Shanghai Masters.
Make Use of the Best Odds
Some snooker bettors will just make use of the first decent odds that they come across, but this is not the best betting strategy as you could end up missing out on extra winnings if you manage to land some winning bets. Keep in mind that not all Snooker betting sites will offer the same odds, and even a small difference can end up costing you a nice chunk of change. Thus, you need to check out different sites before you go and fully commit.
Top Tip 4:: If one bookmaker, for example, is offering odds of 3.40 for O'Sullivan to win and you put £10 on it and he wins, you will see returns of £24. If, on the other hand, another bookmaker is offering odds of 3.60 and you back him with £10, the potential returns will be £26. A £2 difference might not seem like much, but it can quickly add up over time.

🤑 English Open Snooker Betting Markets
Now that you know some of the free bets that are available to British snooker bettors, let me now take you through some of the most popular snooker betting markets that you can use them on.
Outright Winner
With the outright winner market, what you are tasked with doing is predicting the player who will go on to lift the title and claim the cheque. You can sometimes place an each-way bet on this market, meaning your chosen player just needs to make it to the final for you to win some money. Earlier I gave you some English Open betting tips, but here is another - it is best to place an outright winner as early as possible as the odds will shorten with each passing match.
Match Winner
You can find the match-winner market in every sport, and all that you need to do is try to predict the player who will win the match and advance to the next round. In sports such as football or rugby, there is a possibility of a draw, but this is not the case in snooker as there is always a winner. There is one exception, and this is the Championship League as it has a round-robin format.
Frame Win
If you think a match will be too close to call, then another betting option available to you is to bet on the player that will go on and win the next frame. You can watch some of the action first before placing your bet as this will give you a better chance of predicting correctly. If your chosen player wins the following frame but goes on to lose the rest, it does not matter to you.
Over/Under Betting
If you think that a match is going to be very close, instead of betting on the match winner or the player to win the next frame, you could consider betting on the number of frames in the match. For instance, if O'Sullivan is taking on Trump in a best-of-11 match, you could bet on their being over 8.5 frames - this is an "Over" bet and requires there to be at least nine frames in the match.
Frame Handicap Betting
Sometimes there will be a huge gulf in quality between two players in a snooker match, meaning that the odds are not very favourable. The favourite's odds will be too low, while the underdog's odds will be high but their chances of actually winning will be slim. The top bookies will allow you to give a theoretical frame advantage or disadvantage to one of the players to level the playing field.

💾 English Snooker Open Tournament Format
In total, 128 players take part in the English Open, with the top 32-ranked players in the world receiving a bye into the first round. The others are required to play qualifying matches, which are the best of seven frames, to book themselves a spot in the competition proper.
All matches, up to the quarter-finals, will be the best of seven, while the last eight matches will be contested over nine frames. The two semis will be the best of 11 frames, while the final will be the best of 17. The winner will pick up the Steve Davis trophy and a cheque for £80,000. This tournament, like most snooker events, has a knockout format, which means that players are eliminated as soon as they lose one match.
📖 History of the English Open Snooker Tournament
Barry Hearn, the chairman of World Snooker, in April 2015, announced that a new snooker event would take place in Manchester and become part of the Home Nations Series, which was made up of the Scottish Open, Welsh Open, and Northern Ireland Open. The new tournament was called the English Open.
The first edition took place the following year between the 10th and 16th of October at EventCity in Manchester, and Liang Wenbo came out on top, defeating Judd Trump in the final. Since then, this prestigious event has been played in Barnsley, Crawley, Milton Keynes, and Brentwood.
