The 2023/24 snooker season is drawing to a close, but there are still some top snooker events left for us to place bets on. The penultimate ranking tournament of this season is the 2024 Tour Championship, which will be played between the 1st and 7th of April at the Manchester Central Convention Complex. Below I will give you my opinion as to who I think will go on and win this event.
🎱 Tour Championship Betting Preview
There were no qualifiers for the 2024 Tour Championship as the top 12 players in the World Rankings at the end of the 2024 World Open booked themselves a spot in this tournament. The first edition of this competition took place in 2019, with the last one being won by Shaun Murphy - he will not be able to defend his title as he did not qualify this time around.
Like most snooker competitions, the 2024 Tour Championship has a knockout format, meaning that players will be eliminated if they lose one match. All of the matches in this event will be the best of 19 frames, so there will be plenty of snooker action for us to put our money on.
Picking the winner from the 12 best players in the world at this moment in time is not an easy feat, as all 12 participants will feel that they have a good chance of going on to lift the title. Below I am going to take a closer look at four players who I believe have a good shot of winning the 2024 Tour Championship. Under each one, you will find the outright odds that three quality UK bookies are offering.
1️⃣ Ronnie O'Sullivan
In recent seasons, one could be forgiven for thinking that Ronnie O'Sullivan no longer cares about snooker, but as the 2023/24 season draws to a close we can still see the love that he has for this sport and winning. He has won five trophies this season, and he will be disappointed not to have made it six last week in the World Open - he lost a very close quarter-final match to Hossein Vafaei. He can play with the pressure off as he has already won more titles in one season than most players win in their career, and this makes him even more dangerous than usual.

2️⃣ Judd Trump
Judd Trump and O'Sullivan have been a cut above their opponents this season as the former has also won five titles. He was victorious in the World Open last week, brushing aside Ding Junhui in the final, so he will be entering this tournament on a high. He has been ruthless as of late, and he will be confident that nobody will be able to prevent him from claiming his sixth title of the season. Some of the shots that Trump played in the World Open last week were absolutely sublime, especially some of his long-potting.

3️⃣ Mark Selby
The Jester from Leicester has only won one title in the last three years, which is a pretty poor return for someone with his snooker quality. He has won the World Championship on four occasions, which highlights just how good he was at his peak. He won the 2024 Championship League title a couple of weeks back, which should give him some confidence heading into this competition in Manchester. As always, he will rely on his safety game, which is the best in the business.

4️⃣ Mark Allen
While most of the competitions this season have gone to either Trump or O'Sullivan, Mark Allen has shown his class at times to pick up three titles. It has been hit-and-miss for the Pistol as he has either gone deep in an event or been eliminated early. Although he has not consistently been at his best, his opponents will know that they will need to put him down when they get the chance because he does not give up until he is truly beaten.

📊 Tour Championship Winners
When you are considering betting on a sports event, you should take the time to check out the previous winners before doing so. This is because some players seem to play their best snooker in particular venues and countries. For instance, Ronnie O'Sullivan rarely loses a match in China, having picked up the previous four Shanghai Masters titles.
So, below you can find the previous results of the Tour Championship.
Year | Winner | Runner-Up | Score |
---|---|---|---|
2019 | Ronnie O'Sullivan | Neil Robertson | 13-11 |
2020 | Stephen Maguire | Mark Allen | 10-6 |
2021 | Neil Robertson | Ronnie O'Sullivan | 10-4 |
2022 | Neil Robertson | John Higgins | 10-9 |
2023 | Shaun Murphy | Kyren Wilson | 10-7 |
2024 | TBA | TBA | TBA |
🏆 Tour Championship Prediction
So, who do I believe will go on and win the 2024 Tour Championship? Well, form is something that you always need to pay close attention to so, once again, it is a toss-up between Trump and O'Sullivan. For the World Open, I went for O'Sullivan since the event was in China, but after having watched Trump last week, my money is on him to make it six titles for the season. His ruthlessness on the table knows no bounds.
Trump and O'Sullivan are on opposite sides of the draw, so there is every chance that they will meet each other in the final. That would be a great final to watch, and I would back Trump to win a very closely contested match.
My Tour Championship Prediction: Judd Trump to win.
⭐ Tour Championship Betting Tips
It is now time for me to give you some top betting tips for the 2024 Tour Championship.
Bet on a 147
A 147 in snooker occurs when a player pots 15 reds, 15 blacks, and the yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, and black during one visit to the table. This is not an easy feat to do and is equivalent to a hat-trick in football or a nine-dart finish in darts. Due to the difficulty of hitting a 147, the odds that are on offer are usually pretty decent. The great thing about this type of bet is that you do not have to predict who will hit it.
Top Tip 1:: Since this is an event that will feature the 12 current best players in the world, there is every chance that a 147 will be hit. Quality is something that is not going to be in short supply in any match throughout the week. Players are always extra motivated to land a 147 because there is extra prize money on offer.
Who Are the Dark Horses?
Since this event involves the 12 best players in the world, you could say that there are no real dark horses in this competition. However, there are still a number of players who the bookmakers believe have little to no chance of going on to lift the title. This includes the likes of Ali Carter, Barry Hawkins, and Gary Wilson.
Top Tip 2: If, for whatever reason, you do not want to back Trump to win and want to put a punt on an outsider, then I reckon you consider Carter. He has been playing some decent snooker this season, making it to the final of two events and the semi-finals of another. If he plays his best snooker, there is no reason why he cannot win.
Who Will Underperform?
Some players have plenty of talent, but there will be times when they struggle under pressure or are just completely out of form. Some players who have not been performing to the best of their ability lately include the likes of Mark Selby and John Higgins.
Top Tip 3:: Higgins is one of the best players to have played this sport, but I would not be comfortable putting money on him to win the 2024 Tour Championship. He has only picked up three titles in six seasons and has failed to make it past the semi-finals six times this campaign. He is in a rut that he cannot get out of, so I would ignore his odds.
The Highest Break
Another entertaining market that snooker bettors can chance their arm on is the highest break market, which is where you have to try and predict the player who will go on to score the highest break in an event. Since it is tricky to get such a bet correct, the odds that are on offer will often be pretty enticing. With the quality that is on display this week, there should be plenty of big centuries scored.
Top Tip 4: When it comes to the highest break wager, I really cannot suggest anyone other than O'Sullivan or Trump. These two top players have been brilliant this season, and it would not be any sort of surprise if they were to go on and land the highest break. I will leave the final decision down to you.
