world-open-2024-prediction

The big snooker events just roll around at this time of year, giving us snooker fans plenty of betting opportunities. The next big snooker competition that we can sit down and enjoy includes the 2024 World Open. This ranking event will take place between the 18th and 24th of March at the Yushan Sports Centre in Yushan. In this World Open final prediction, I will give you my opinions on who I think will win this tournament.

🎱 World Open Betting Preview

The qualifiers for the World Open took place at the end of January at the Barnsley Metrodome in Barnsley, and there will be 64 players taking part in this competition. The first edition of this tournament was played in 2016, but the last one took place in 2019 as it was cancelled during the pandemic period.

Like the majority of snooker events, it has a knockout format, which means that players cannot afford to lose a single match if they want to lift the title. All matches up to the semi-finals will be the best of 9 frames, while the semis will be the best of 11 frames, and the final will be the best of 19.

Picking the winner from 64 participants is not an easy thing to do, especially since shocks are not rare in snooker. Below I will take a look at four players who I feel have a good chance of winning the 2024 World Open. Under each one, I will give you the odds that three top bookies are offering for each one to go on and lift the title.

1️⃣ Ronnie O'Sullivan

Sometimes, in recent seasons, O'Sullivan, the 7-time World Champion, has looked like he really cannot be bothered to play snooker, but during the 2023/24 season, he has been a man on fire. He has been the man to watch out for, having won no fewer than five trophies - the 2023 UK Championship, the 2023 Shanghai Masters, the 2024 World Grand Prix, the 2024 Masters, and the 2024 World Masters of Snooker. When he is in this type of form, the only thing that can beat The Rocket is his own mentality on match day.

2️⃣ Judd Trump

Another Englishman who has been in great form this season is Judd Trump, as can be seen from the fact that he has won four titles. The four events that he won were the 2023 English Open, the 2023 Wuhan Open, the 2023 Northern Ireland Open, and the 2024 German Masters. With the ruthless way that he has been playing lately, he will be confident of being able to go deep in this event and retain the title that he won in 2019. The other players will be hoping that luck does not pit them against him.

3️⃣ Mark Allen

Mark Allen's 2023/24 season has had more downs than ups, but he has still landed himself three titles - the 2023 Snooker Shootout, the 2023 Champions of Champions, and the 2024 Players Championship. In many other events, though, he has gone out before the third round, so it is feast or famine for the Northern Irishman at the moment. Although he has not been playing at consistently at the top of his game, nobody who comes up against him will take him lightly. The odds that are on offer for him to win could provide some good betting value.

4️⃣ Mark Selby

Mark Selby has only picked up one title in the last three seasons, which really is not a good enough return for a player of his quality - we must remember that he has been World Champion on no fewer than four occasions. However, he will enter this event with some renewed confidence as he claimed the 2024 Championship League title, which was a long event that took place between the 2nd of January and the 13th of March. He will be relying on his safety game, which is one of the best on the circuit, to claim his 30th title.

📊 World Open Winners

Whenever you are betting on a sporting event, it is always a good move to check out some of the previous winners before you go ahead and put a bet down. Some players just always perform when playing in certain events or particular countries. For instance, O'Sullivan loves playing in China as can be seen from him winning the previous four editions of the Shanghai Masters.

So, with this in mind, I am now going to give you the previous results of the World Open:

YearWinnerRunner-UpScore
2016Ali CarterJoe Perry10-8
2017Ding JunhuiKyren Wilson10-3

🏆 World Open Prediction

So, the big question is, who do I think will go on and win this event? Well, I always tell my readers to pay particular attention to form, so I cannot look beyond either O'Sullivan or Trump. I could tell you to toss a coin and bet on whoever it lands on, but I do not like to sit on the fence. Instead, I am going to suggest that you bet on O'Sullivan to come out on top because he is in imperious form at present.

These two played against each other at the inaugural World Masters of Snooker in Riyadh recently, and O'Sullivan came out on top with a 4-1 win. He then played Luca Brecel, the current World Champion, in the final, and won 5-2. I should also mention that he quickly dispatched John Higgins 4-0 in the quarter-finals.

I think it is easy to see why my money is on The Rocket, and the odds for him to win are not too short either.

My World Open Prediction: Ronnie O'Sullivan to win.

⭐ World Open Betting Tips

I am now going to give you some other top betting tips for the 2024 World Open.

Bet on a 147

If you are new to snooker, then a 147 happens when a player manages to pot 15 reds, 15 blacks, and 7 colours all in one trip to the table. This is not an easy thing to do, despite what O'Sullivan likes to say, which is why there are usually some good odds on offer for one to be scored. One great thing about this market is that you do not have to try and predict the player who will land it.

Top Tip 1: Since this is a ranking event, it is one that players will take more seriously since there will be some big ranking points and prizes available. Some of the best snooker players will be participating, so I feel that there is every chance that someone will land a 147..

Who Are the Dark Horses?

All snooker events will have their dark horses, and some players who are worth keeping an eye on include the likes of John Higgins, Ding Junhui, and Ali Carter. These four players, despite not being the favourites with the bookmakers, will believe that they can go on and win the 2024 World Open.

Top Tip 2: If you do not think the odds for an O'Sullivan win are not long enough, then you might want to think about betting on Ding Junhui. He has not won a title in four years, but he has not been playing too badly this season, making it to three quarter-finals, a semi-final, and a final. He will be eager to lift his first trophy in a long time in front of his adoring fans. Home advantage might just spur him on to greatness.

Who Will Underperform?

Some players have a lot of talent, but they just struggle to show it off when they are under pressure or they just happen to be in no kind of form when the tournament rolls around. One player who has been struggling as of late is Higgins, while the likes of Wilson, Murphy, and Brecel are not in any kind of form either.

Top Tip 3: Higgins is a top player and one of the best to have played the game, but I would not back him to win the 2024 World Open. In the last six seasons, he has won just three titles, and during the 2023/24 season, he has fallen in no fewer than six semi-finals. He seems to be in a bit of a rut, so I would not bet on him.

The Highest Break

One other fun market that snooker punters can put their hard-earned money on is the highest break market, where you are tasked with trying to predict which player will score the highest break across the tournament. Due to the difficulty of getting such a wager right, the odds available will usually be quite enticing. The player who lands the highest break will get some bonus money, so there is always an extra incentive to do so.

Top Tip 4: When it comes to betting on who will hit the highest break, I cannot look past Trump or O'Sullivan. These two players have been playing the best snooker lately, and I can see either of them landing the high break prize. I will leave it to you to decide who.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions About the World Open

What Are the Best Betting Sites for the 2024 World Open?

There are many top sites that you can sign up with to place bets on the 2024 World Open, but there are five that I recommend above all others. For me, the top betting sites for World Open betting are Betiton Sport, Mr. Mega Sport, LeoVegas, 10Bet, and BzeeBet Sport.

Who Will Win the 2024 World Open?

A number of players will be confident about going on to win the 2024 World Open, including the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan, Judd Trump, Mark Allen, and Mark Selby. Out of the 64 participants, the player who I think will end up coming out on top is O'Sullivan as he has been in wonderful form, winning five titles already this season.

Who Has the Most World Open Titles?

There have only been four World Open competitions to date as it was impacted by the pandemic a few years ago, so nobody has won it more than once. The four winners of this tournament were Ali Carter, Ding Junhui, Mark Williams, and Judd Trump.

What is the Prize Money for the 2024 World Open?

The winner of the 2024 World Open will walk away with a cheque for £170,000, while the runner-up will take away £73,000.
