This weekend will see yet another Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Fight Night event, this time at the UFC Apex facility in Las Vegas. The headline bout here will see Brazilian Amanda Lemos take on her compatriot Virna Jandiroba in the strawweight class, with both veterans of the UFC and boasting very different fighting styles. Arguably, Lemos has had a little more exposure during her career and fought for the UFC Women's Strawweight Championship title last August, but Virna Jandiroba will arrive in Sin City is slightly better form. But which of these contenders do I think will prevail here?
💯 Lemos vs Jandiroba Betting Odds
Despite her impressive resume, Lemos is the betting underdog heading into the fight against Jandiroba. In fact, the pre-bout odds of 2.10 imply a 47.61% probability of a victory for ‘Amandinha’, who was defeated by Zhang Weili in her title tilt at UFC 292 last summer. The in-form Jandiroba has won three bouts in a row and can be backed at around 1.67, suggesting that she has a 59.88% chance of extending this sequence on UFC’s latest Fight Night.

⚡ Amanda Lemos Overview
The 37-year-old Lemos is an 11-fight UFC veteran, while her record of 14 wins in 18 bouts (with three defeats and a single draw) is genuinely impressive. What’s more, eight of her wins have come via way of knockout (57.14%), including an impressive TKO of Marina Rodriguez in November 2022.
Amandinha moved down to the 115-pound division in 2019. Since then, she has compiled a record of 8-2 against relatively stellar opposition, with Jessica Andrade the only woman to defeat her (other than Zhang) during this sequence. However, Andrade managed to submit her with an arm-triangle choke in round one of their bout, while Zhang Weili secured a dominant points win in Boston.
Both of these fights saw Lemos struggle on the ground, although the Brazilian will be buoyed by her performance when defeating Mackenzie Dern last time out. The powerful Dern also took Lemos to the floor during their enthralling fight in February, but she managed to hold her own before earning a unanimous decision at UFC 298.
Overall, she’s a solid fighter with a 65-inch reach and excellent striking skills, and she’ll look to draw Jandiroba into a standup brawl at the UFC Apex facility. Lemos certainly has more than a puncher’s chance, and it can be argued that she’s slightly overpriced at 2.15 with Betarno.
⭐ Virna Jandiroba Overview
While Lemos will want to avoid the floor and draw her opponent into a fist fight, there’s no doubt that Jandiroba will look to deploy her proven grappling skills from the outset. Remember, 13 of ‘Carcara’s’ 20 career victories have been achieved by way of submission (65%), while she has also earned six points decisions and a single stoppage.
Overall, Jandiroba has won 20 of her 23 contests, proving herself to be one of the most durable and consistent UFC performers since her debut with the promotion in April 2019. The 36-year-old will also arrive in Nevada in exceptional form, having recent won three successive bouts for the first time since September 2018.
Jandiroba’s three-fight winning streak has produced three unanimous points wins, the first of which came against Angela Hill in May 2022. She also defeated Marina Rodriguez after grounding her for most of their bout in May last year, before dominating Loopy Godinez last time out in March.
There’s no doubt that Jandiroba is one of the most skilful and seasoned female grapplers in the sport, while she’ll take to the Octagon in a rich vein of form. However, this will ultimately be an epic clash of styles which could also leave Carcara vulnerable to her opponent’s punching power.

🏆 Lemos vs Jandiroba Prediction
Classic grappler vs striker bouts are always enthralling, but the clash of styles can make picking a winner difficult. This certainly applies in the fight between Lemos and Jandiroba, where there will be two distinct skillsets on show and an epic battle to force a specific type of physical combat.
But who’s more likely to impose their win on their opponent? Well, Jandiroba has won exactly 65% of her bouts by submission, while Lemos’ knockout rate of 57.14% is lower but still relatively impressive. Lemos has also been submitted once (by Jessica Andrade) and lost once by way of decision, whereas Jandiroba has yet to be stopped throughout the entirety of her MMA career.
Of course, Amandinha showcased immense toughness to outpoint Mackenzie Dern in February, while proving her ability to compete and endure on the ground. As I’ve touched on, she also has a better resume and has faced a slighter higher quality of opponent overall, and even competed for a UFC Women's Strawweight Championship last year.
However, she was comfortably defeated by Zhang Weili in her title tilt, while Lemos didn’t even last a round against Jéssica Andrade when they fought in April 2022. Conversely, Jandiroba is in excellent form and has reeled off three consecutive wins since October, 2021, each following a dominant display of grappling.
I predict that form and superior grappling skills will prove key in Las Vegas, and while Lemos may be too tough for Jandiroba to submit, I’m tipping Carcara to earn a decision after five incredibly challenging rounds!
My Prediction: 🏆Virna Jandiroba to Win by Decision⚽
