The heavyweights will take centre stage at the next UFC Fight Night, with Marcin Tybura scheduled to face old foe Serghei Spivac on Saturday, 10th August. This will be their second meeting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, with ‘Tybur’ having decisively outpointed his opponent back in February 2020. Spivac will also arrive at Nevada’s UFC Apex on the back of a TKO defeat against Ciryl Gane last September, while Tybura impressively submitted Tai Tuivasa in March. But will momentum prove key for the 38-year-old Tybura, or can the younger Spivac avenge his previous defeat in Las Vegas? Let’s find out!
Tybura vs Spivac 2 Betting Odds
The UK’s best betting sites have yet to publish their pre-fight odds ahead of Tybura vs. Spivac 2. However, it’s interesting to note that the experienced Tybura has entered six of his last seven bouts as the betting underdog, including his superb first round victory over Tuivasa in Sin City. Conversely, Spivak has been favoured twice by bookmakers in his last three bouts, although he was the 2.70 underdog prior to his defeat against Gane. These odds implied just a 37.03% probability of a Spivak win, but I expect him to be priced much shorter against Tybura.

Tybura vs. Spivac 2 Prediction
Spivac was strangely subdued and overpowered when he first fought Tybura at UFC Fight Night on February 29th, 2020. He was comprehensively dominated in two of the three rounds, while he struggled to either land cleanly or successfully take his hardened opponent to the floor.
In fact, he only mustered a single takedown attempt in 15 minutes, while even this was unsuccessful. Conversely, Tybura’s superior head movement enabled him to easily slip Spivac’s jab and counter with power punches, laying a foundation from which he was able to secure two of eight attempted takedowns (25%) and dominate on the ground.
I’ve already touched on how Tybur landed with 43 of his 106 attempted significant strikes (40%) in the pairs’ previous bout, while Spivac was far less accurate and connected with 31% of his kicks and punches. This is far below his career average, so this could be a classic case of styles making (or breaking fights).
Spivac also struggled to get his grappling game going last time out against Gane, and ultimately succumbed to his opponent’s immense striking. While Tybur lacks the same level of single punch power or knockout threat as the ‘Good Kid’, he’s as strong and durable as they come, while his excellent ability to slip and counter punches means he may find it easy to close the distance once again here.
So, I’m predicting another hard-fought Tybura win at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, either via a late submission or decision.
My Prediction: 🏆 Marcin Tybura to Win
Tybura Overview
Tybura’s MMA career has been a genuine roller-coaster, despite his impressive record of 25 wins in 33 bouts (at a win-rate of 75.75%). He has won 12 of his 19 fights under the UFC banner, (63.15%), despite losing four out of five bouts (three by way of stoppage) between November 2017 and September 2019.
However, it was Tybur’s dominant points win over Spivac that snapped this sequence, as the Pole landed 40% of his significant strikes while dominating on the ground. He also slipped and countered the Polar Bear’s strikes with ease, showcasing exceptional head movement throughout.
This was the first of eight wins in 10 UFC bouts since February 29th, 2020, while Tybura has earned three ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses during this run. Five of these victories have been awarded via decision (four unanimously). Tybur has also stopped two opponents: namely Greg Hardy and Walt Harris, before he submitted Tuivasa using a rear-naked choke just four minutes and eight seconds into the first round.
Overall, nine of Tybura’s 25 MMA career wins have been delivered by KO or TKO, equating to a knockout rate of 36%. He has also submitted seven of his opponents (28%), while earning nine decisions in total. These statistics reflect Tybur’s well rounded fighting style, as he’s capable of combining power punching and a unique kicking style with solid grappling skills to excellent effect.
Spivac Overview
Notably, Spivac is nine years younger than Tybura at 29, while his win-rate in the UFC is also marginally higher than his opponents. In fact, he has triumphed in seven of his 11 bouts with this promotion (63.63%), while the entirety of his MMA career has seen him fight 20 times and prevail on 16 occasions (80%).
In addition to the Polar Bear’s outstanding record, he’s also considered to be a superior finisher. This is borne out by the numbers: with 14 of his 16 victories (87.5%) being achieved by either KO, TKO or submission. Similarly, three of his four career losses have been delivered by TKO, including conclusive defeats against Gane and Tom Aspinall.
Analysis of Spivac’s recent record shows that four of his last five bouts have been decided via TKO, with this sequence including swift victories over Augusto Sakai and Greg Hardy. Unsurprisingly, none of these bouts have lasted for more than two rounds, so there’s the potential for fireworks given the Polar Bear’s typically clean striking, consistent jab and fundamental lack of head movement.
However, Spivac is also an impressive and well-balanced fighter. His grappling game is particularly strong, with seven of his 16 MMA wins being achieved by submission (43.75%). He’s usually exceptional at taking down his opponents too, thanks to his technically sound chain clinch trips and forceful throws. Although he struggled in this respect in the first bout against Tybura, he shouldn’t be underestimated at the UFC Apex.
Tybura vs Serghei Spivac 2 Betting Offers
I expect the dominant nature of Tybura’s previous win over Spivac to make him a narrow favourite this time around. However, this is still a close and incredibly tough bout to call, while even the method of victory is difficult to predict given the record of both fighters. Each of Spivac’s previous five bouts have ended inside two rounds, but I’d argue that Tybura has far too much pedigree and experience to be stopped so early.
