There will be four Group Stages games played on the 26th of November, and the first one of the day kicks off at 10:00am and sees Tunisia take on Australia. This 21st game of the competition will take place at the Al Janoub Stadium in Al-Wakrah, and the two underdogs from Group D will battle it out to avoid finishing bottom of the group. Australia and Tunisia play France and Denmark in their opening match, so it is likely that both teams will be needing a win to keep their tournament hopes alive. Who is going to come out on top in this battle of the underdogs? Well, keep reading and find out our prediction for this match.

🏠 Tunisia Team Preview

The North Africa side are ranked 30th in the FIFA World Rankings, and the highest ranking that they have ever managed to achieve is 14th back in May 2018. The fact that they are ranked 30th on the world footballing stage is an indication that they are no mugs, and their opponents would be foolish to take them lightly. At the 2018 World Cup they gave England, who went on to the semi-finals a really tough game, with Harry Kane scoring the winner in the 91st minute.

Tunisia will also rock up in Qatar in some decent form, with only one defeat from their last eight matches, which was a 5-1 defeat to the might of Brazil. In this run they beat the likes of Chile and Japan to win the Kirin Cup, and Japan these two teams are definitely not bad by any stretch of the imagination.

🏆 World Cup History

Tunisia will be appearing in just their 6th World Cup, but we think that it is important to stress that five of these appearances have come in the previous seven competitions dating back to 1998. Before this, their only World Cup appearance was in 1978. While they were eliminated in the group stage, they performed really well and even picked up their first ever World Cup finals win, which was a 3-1 victory over Morocco.

From 1998 to 2006, Tunisia appeared in three World Cups, failing to get out of the group on every occasion and failing to pick up a single win to boot. They then failed to qualify for the World Cup in 2010 and 2014, but they made their return to the big stage at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. While they were once again eliminated in the Group Stage, they managed to pick up their second World Cup win courtesy of a 2-1 defeat of Panama.

✔️ Qualification and Road to the World Cup 2022

Since they were the second-ranked CAF nation back in December 2019, Tunisia were awarded a bye into the second round of the CAF qualifiers. They went on to top Group B by two points, winning four of their six matches, and advancing to Round Three of the qualifiers. In the third round they took on Mali over two legs, and they won the away leg thanks to Moussa Sissako's own goal, while a 0-0 draw at home was enough for them to book themselves a spot at yet another World Cup.

Below you can see the matches that Tunisia played in order to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

⭐ Tunisia Players to Watch

Tunisia do not have players that are known around the world, but they do have some quality in their squad still, and we are going to give you three players that we will be keeping an eye on during their World Cup campaign.

  • Hannibal Mejbri: He is currently playing for Birmingham City on loan from Manchester United, and he is actually a rare kind of international footballer since he has made 18 appearances for his country despite not having played once for his parent club. This indicates just how good he is, and he has great vision, brilliant close control, and is a really good ball carrier. He did make 12 appearances for France U16s, but he decided to play for Tunisia, and made his debut for them against the DR Congo on the 5th of June 2021
  • Anis Ben Slimane: We expect him to star on the World Cup stage for Tunisia having already created a stir for his club and country in just a short time frame. Despite being just 21 years of age, he has already made 24 appearances for his country, notching 4 goals in the process. One of these goals played a key part in Tunisia qualifying for the Qatar World Cup, and he plays with a maturity the belies he age
  • Youssef Msakni: The striker is Tunisia's current captain, and his 84 caps makes him one of their more experienced players. He has 17 goals to his name, which is not as good a record as he would like for his country, but we are backing him to have a decent World Cup and find the back of the net for his team. There is no doubt that he has the quality to do so because he has scored 147 goals in 345 appearances in his club career

☍ Australia Preview

Football is definitely not the most popular sport Down Under, but the national football team still ranks relatively highly in FIFA's rankings - they are currently ranked 39th in the world. When it comes to AFC teams at the World Cup, they are the fourth-best ranked side, ahead of the likes of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq.

It is fair to say that the Aussies struggled a bit during their qualifying campaign, with a 2-0 defeat to Japan and a 1-0 defeat to Saudi Arabia leaving them desperately close to failing to qualify. We will speak about this in one of our next sections, but the long and the short of it is they needed a play-off to book their spot in Qatar.

🏆 World Cup History

Australia were not members of FIFA until 1966, so they did not make their first appearance at a World Cup until 1974. In their first showing on the big international stage, they were eliminated at the Group Stage, failing to win a game or score a goal in their three matches. They had to wait a staggering 32 years before their next appearance at a World Cup, and they made history when they beat Japan 3-1 in their opening game. They then lost to Brazil in the following match, but a 2-2 draw against Croatia saw them through to the Round of 16, where they were knocked out 1-0 by Italy, who went on to win the title.

Unfortunately for Australian football fans, they were not able to build on the success of the 2006 World Cup, failing to qualify from the groups in the next three tournaments in Brazil, South Africa, and Russia. However, they are back on the world stage once again, and they will be looking to recreate the success that they had in 2006 in Germany.

✔️ Qualification and Road to the World Cup 2022

Since they were the fourth-ranked AFC team when the draw was done, the Aussies received a bye into the second round of the qualification process. They won all eight games, scoring 28 goals, and finishing 10 points ahead of Kuwait in second place.

However, despite the good start, they struggled in Round Three, winning just one of their five away matches and finishing third, meaning that they had to settle for a Play-Off spot in order to book a spot at yet another World Cup. They beat the United Arab Emirates 2-1 to advance to the Inter-Confederation Play-Off match where they took on Peru. This was a tense match that finished all square after extra-time, and the Socceroos held their nerves to win a penalty shootout to qualify for Qatar.

⭐ Australia Players to Watch

The Aussies have a diverse team with players that play their football all around the world, but there are only a few of their squad that casual football fans will have heard of. Below we have provided you with three top Aussie footballers that you should keep an eye on this winter.

  • Tom Rogic: The 29-year-old is one of Australia's most experienced and best midfielders, with a great left foot and quality passing skills. He also has a bit of an eye for goal, scoring 10 goals in the 54 caps that he has received. At the moment, Rogic is playing for West Bromich Albion in the English Championship, and he will be eager to show his quality on the World Stage
  • Aaron Mooy: Mooy is definitely another player to watch when the action ges underway in Qatar. He is an all-action player that is able to create goals, score goals, and defend. He has 7 goals in his 52 caps, and two of these came in the recent World Cup qualifiers. He currently plays for Celtic, but those who have followed the English Premier League over the last few years will have heard of him since he used to play for Brighton and Hove Albion. He has 50 club goals in just over 300 matches, which is a great strike-rate for a player who plays quite deep
  • Awer Mabil: We feel that he will be quite a handful for defenders at this World Cup. When you look at his club record of 36 goals in 240 games, you might think that he is definitely not someone to look out for, but he is one of those players that seems to play better for country than club - in his 29 matches for his adopted country, he has 8 goals, and we are backing him to add to that in Qatar

🥇 Who Will Win? Tunisia vs Australia Prediction

When it comes to this Tunisia vs Australia prediction, the result is hard to call, and we can see why the bookies are struggling to decide on who will come out on top. 🔍 Our Tunisia vs Australia Betting Tips?

Below are some World Cup football betting tips for this game between Australia and Tunisia. If you are considering betting on this game, then we do recommend that you pay attention to what we are about to say as it can increase your odds of placing a successful bet. However, please remember that winning is never a guarantee when you are sports betting.

Under 2.5 goals: We think that both of these teams will cancel each other out and that the game will end in a draw - at best, we feel that both teams will score only once, so going for the under 2.5 goals market seems like a good wager.

Over 3.5 yellow cards: This is going to be a tense match for both sides because both teams will be well aware of the fact that a draw does not really do them any good. Therefore, we expect many dodgy tackles to be put in as the stress levels increase, so over 3.5 cards for this match really does seem like a solid bet.
