The 26th game that we get to enjoy at the 2022 Qatar World Cup is between Belgium and Morocco, and it will be played at the Al Thumama Stadium at 13:00 GMT on the 27th November. These two teams will be hoping to be on three points already having played their opening match, knowing that another win will more or less guarantee them a spot in the last 16. It goes without saying that Belgium will be the favourites for this match, but a World Cup would not be a World Cup without a couple of shock results. Keep on reading to find out how we think this match is going to unfold.
🏠 Belgium Team Preview
Belgium are currently ranked as the second best team in the world behind Brazil, which makes them the highest ranked European team in the tournament. It is not surprising that this is the case since they have some top-quality players in their squad such as Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard, and Kevin de Bruyne. Belgium have had a bit of a Golden Generation for some time now, but this might be the last chance that they have to collect some Silverware.
Belgium were in a UEFA Nations League group with Netherlands, Wales, and Poland, and they finished second in the group with just three wins from six matches. This included a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of the Netherlands, and a 1-1 draw to Wales, both results that they would have been disappointed with. They will be hoping to show their best form at the 2022 World Cup and make it through the group stage without much hassle.
🏆 World Cup History
The Qatar World Cup will be the 14th time that Belgium have played at the World Cup, meaning that they have only failed to qualify seven times - after World War II, they decided not to enter. Despite entering a number of FIFA World Cups with plenty of talent at their disposal, Belgium have never managed to lift the title or even make it to the final. In fact, the best finish that they managed was a third-place finish in 2018 when they beat England in the Third/Fourth Play-Off match.
Overall, Belgium have played 48 matches at the WC finals and they have managed to win 20 of them, drawing 9, and losing 19. Something that we think is interesting to point out is that they have a negative goal difference at the World Cup, having scored 68 and conceded 72.
✔️ Qualification and Road to the World Cup 2022
Despite some recent form issues, Belgium qualified for Qatar in comfort. From the eight games that they had to play in UEFA Qualification Group E, they won six and drew two, overcoming some strong teams such as the Czech Republic and Wales. They finished ahead of Wales by five points, and they scored 25 goals while conceding just the six. Below you can see a table of their results from their qualifying process:
Date | Match | Final Score | Winner |
---|---|---|---|
24th March 2021 | Belgium vs Wales | 3-1 | Belgium |
27th March 2021 | Czech Republic vs Belgium | 1-1 | Draw |
30th March 2021 | Belgium vs Belarus | 8-0 | Belgium |
2nd September 2021 | Estonia vs Belgium | 2-5 | Belgium |
5th September 2021 | Belgium vs Czech Republic | 3-0 | Belgium |
8th September 2021 | Belarus vs Belgium | 0-1 | Belgium |
13th November 2021 | Belgium vs Estonia | 3-1 | Belgium |
16th November 2021 | Wales vs Belgium | 1-1 | Draw |
⭐ Belgium Players to Watch
There is a really good chance that you are going to recognise most of the players that have been included in the Belgium squad since they all play in the big leagues around Europe. However, we feel that there are three players that you should definitely keep a close eye on in Qatar.
- Kevin de Bruyne: During his time in the English Premier League, Dr Bruyne has become one of the best midfielders in the world. During his time at Chelsea and Manchester City, he has made 224 appearances in the Premier League and has scored 60 goals and provided 95 assists. He was also named as Player of the Season on two occasions, which is no mean feat. When it comes to his country statistics, he has 25 goals in 93 appearances. If you want to bet on the player who will get the most assists, then De Bruyne is your man
- Charles De Ketelaere: He will form part of Belgium's next Golden Generation, and is the player that many feel will take over from de Bruyne when he hangs up his boots. At just 21 years of age, he already has 8 caps to his name, making his debut for his country in November 2020 against the Swiss. He currently plies his trade at Serie A champions AC Milan, and playing week in week out at the highest level is only going to make him better and better.
- Leandro Trossard: While he is no longer a youngster at 27 years of age, the Brighton wide attacker has started to peak for both club and country. He can play as a wing-back or as a left-sided attacker, and this versatility is something that Roberto Martinez likes. To date, Trossard has 21 caps for his country and has scored 5 goals, while he has played for Brighton 114 times and has 25 goals
☍ Morocco Preview
There are 21 ranking places between Belgium and Morocco as FIFA have ranked the North African side as the 23rd best team. However, they are still a talented team and are ranked as the second best Africa nation at the World Cup, behind Sadio Mane's Senegal, but ahead of the likes of Cameroon, Ghana, and Tunisia.
Morocco have been in some fine form ahead of this competition and have rarely been losing, so this could stand them in good stead for getting out of their group. One thing is for certain, if any of their opponents take them lightly, then they could end up with plenty of egg on their faces.
🏆 World Cup History
If Morocco manage to make it out of the Group Stage of the Qatar World Cup, then it will be the first time that they have managed such a feat since the World Cup finals in Mexico in 1986. In their whole World Cup history, they have never made it into the last eight, and this will be their sixth showing at the World Cup finals.
Since their best showing at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, they have only managed to qualify for four of the nine tournaments that have been held, with just once appearance in the previous two decades. So, although their current squad has plenty of promise, they will need to overcome a lot of history in order to take themselves deep into the 2022 Qatar tournament.
✔️ Qualification and Road to the World Cup 2022
Like we said above, this Morocco team has plenty of talent and this talent helped them to qualify easily for the Qatar finals. Due to their ranking, they got a bye in Round Two of the CAF qualifying process. They were placed in Group I, and then won all their matches, scoring a total of 20 goals and conceding only one. They then took on the DR Congo in the Third Round, and they won 5-2 over the course of two legs, which included a 4-1 hammering in Casablanca.
In the table below you can see the results that took Morocco to the 2022 Qatar World Cup:

2nd September 2021 | Morocco vs Sudan | 2-0 | Morocco |

9th October 2021 | Guinea-Bissau vs Morocco | 0-3 | Morocco |
12th October 2021 | Guinea vs Morocco | 1-4 | Morocco |
12th November 2021 | Sudan vs Morocco | 0-3 | Morocco |

29th March 2021 | Morocco vs DR Congo | 4-1 | Morocco |
⭐ Morocco Players to Watch
While casual football fans might not know much about many of Morocco's squad, there are some standout names that play in some of the best leagues in Europe, and here are three that you should keep a close eye on:
- Achraf Hakimi: He is definitely one of Morocco's top talents, with the highly talented right-wing back starring for both PSG and his national team. Despite playing in a more defensive position, he has quite the scoring record - in 46 matches for PSG, he has 7 goals to his name, and in the 53 caps that he picked up for his country, he has found the back of the net on 8 occasions. Although his is just 24 years of age, he has already played for huge clubs such as Real Madrid, Dortmund, and Inter Milan
- Youssef En-Nesyri: The Sevilla forward is one of Morocco's biggest goal threat, having scored 14 goals from the 48 caps that he has. He has also had a pretty successful career in Europe, playing for the likes of Leganes and Malaga before signing for Sevilla for a fee of €20 million in 2019. To date, he has picked up 35 goals in 113 games for his club, with one of his best performances coming in the 2020/21 season when he scored 24 goals in 52 matches
- Ilias Chair: Fans of the Championship in the United Kingdom will be fully aware as to who Ilias Chair is since he currently plays for Queens Park Rangers. With 10 international caps to his name, he is a bit of a newbie when it comes to international football, but he has a creative vision and energy that could see him be very influential for his team in Qatar. He has been in pretty good form too, having netted six goals and provided a number of assists in 16 Championship appearances this season

🔥 Both Teams to Score
Things would get really boring if you could only put your money on the team that you think will go on to win the match, so thankfully when it comes to football betting, there are many different markets that you can put your money on. One of our favourites is Both Teams to Score, which is where you need to decide whether you think both teams will find the back of the net or not - it is a simple yes or no answer. 🥅 Over/Under 2.5 Goals
Another market that we always like to have a look at is the Over/Under 2.5 goal market, and with this type of bet you are putting your money on the total number of goals that you believe will be scored in a particular game. For instance, if you think that both teams have really good attackers, then you can place your money on over 2.5 goals being scored - in order to win such a bet, you need there to be three goals or more scored.

🥇 Who Will Win? Belgium vs Morocco Prediction
There can be no doubt that Morocco have some very talented individuals in their team, especially when it comes to their attack. Due to the really hot conditions that are expected throughout the competition, this match could be closer than what the odds suggest because the North African side will be more used to playing in sweltering conditions. However, Belgium have quality in both attack and defence, and we think that, despite the heat, they will have a bit too much for Morocco and will come out on top.
