The Qatar 2022 World Cup is officially over the Group Stage, and we are moving into the phase of the competition where any missteps will result in a team being eliminated and sent home. On the other side, the victors will be one step closer to having their names recorded in history. Make sure that your calendar is free for this Round of 16 encounter between the Group B champions and the Group A runners-up - the game starts at 20:00 on December 4 at the Al Bayt Stadium. Many World Cup 2022 predictions are available for this fourth knockout game.
England vs Senegal Preview
ITV 1 will be carrying all of the action for this match if you wish to watch it. Since England typically does poorly when they are on ITV 1, England fans undoubtedly would have preferred that this game instead be broadcast on BBC 1.
All jokes aside, the tables from Groups A and B can be found below for those that need a refresher. We advise you to carefully examine both tables since they can give you a fair picture of how each teams fared and were able to secure a berth in the Round of 16. Before placing any football wagers, it is a good idea to review previous results and current form because these will undoubtedly affect who will win each match.

England Preview
The chart above shows that England won their group after playing three games for free in Group B, winning two and drawing one. England began their third and final group game knowing that a draw would advance them, while a USA win or draw would see England atop the group. After a decisive 6-2 victory against Iran in their tournament opener and a tie against the USA in their second game, England moved on to play against Wales. With a convincing 3-0 victory against Wales, England secured a Round of 16 matchup with Senegal. They had never scored nine goals at this point of the competition, but they did so in the Group Stage. Many viewers and sports experts are under the opinion that they had the potential to score more.
Starting Lineups for England
Southgate selected a 4-3-3 team against Wales, and we predict that he will select the same lineup against the Senegalese. Below is our simulated England starting lineup for this match:
- J. Pickford
- K. Walker
- J. Stones
- H. Maguire
- L. Shaw
- J. Bellingham
- D. Rice
- K. Philips
- B. Saka
- R. Sterling
- H. Kane
For what it is worth, we would probably start Foden and keep Sterling on the bench, but Southgate has a tendency to start players based off a sense of loyalty and not form, so we will not be surprised to see the Chelsea man play. Also, do not be surprised to see Mount slotted into the starting XI, despite the fact he offers very little to the England team.
⭐ England Players to Watch
The England team is filled with talented athletes, and we've listed three of them below for you to keep an eye out for when England plays Senegal:
- Harry Kane:The Spurs striker may not have scored a goal in this competition, but he has still shown his value to this England team by contributing three outstanding assists, the best of which was the pass to Foden against Wales that effectively handed the ball to Foden on a platter, who ate it up with gusto. When he eventually scores, the Senegalese defenders will realise that if they give him an inch, he'll take a mile. 51 goals have been scored by him in the 78 games that he has played for England.
- Jude Bellingham: Despite being only 19 years old, he has displayed maturity much above his years at this World Cup. This is likely because he routinely competes for Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Without a question, he has a bright career ahead of him. In fact, with his technical prowess and ability to choose a pass, in a few years he may perhaps rank among England's most crucial players. We're interested in how he performs in one of the biggest games of his young career.
- Harry Maguire: Before the World Cup, the Manchester United defender took a lot of heat for his performances for the club, but when he dons the England jersey, he suddenly transforms into a completely different player. He has been performing admirably for England during this World Cup, and because of his skill in the air, he always poses a threat in set pieces. We are quite keen to watch how he does against a tough Senegal onslaught, where he will need to be at the top of his game.
Senegal Preview
Senegal placed second in their group, trailing the Netherlands, as you can see from our Group A table above. Despite playing well in their opening match against the Dutch, they were unable to capitalise on their efforts due to a late goal for the Netherlands. Their second match of the competition was against Qatar, where they defeated the hosts by a score of 3-1. This meant that they needed to win against Ecuador in their last group match in order to advance, and they produced their greatest performance of the tournament to win 2-1 and send the youthful Ecuador squad home.
They now know that in order to advance to the last eight, they must defeat England. There undoubtedly weren't many football predictions that had the African football teams finishing ahead of Ecuador in the Group Stage given their poor World Cup record over the years They have, though, demonstrated their brilliance and well merited their place in the Round of 16.
Idrissa Gueye received his second yellow card of the competition against Ecuador, eliminating him from the Round of 16. As a result, Aliou Cissé will be obliged to make one change to his starting XI for this game. He will at least be relieved that he has no injuries to important players when it comes to injuries. If N. Mendy, B. Dia, or I. Jakobs receive a yellow card against England, they would be disqualified from their nation's first-ever World Cup quarterfinal.
Starting Lineups for Senegal
Senegal used a 4-4-2 formation against Ecuador, and we can pretty much guarantee that they'll utilise it against England as well. For this important game, the Senegal starting lineup XI is as below:
- E. Mendy
- Y. Sabaly
- K. Koulibaly
- A. Diallo
- I. Jakobs
- I. Sarr
- N. Mendy
- I. Ndiaye
- K. Diatta
- B. Dia
- F. Diedhou
⭐ Senegal Players to Watch
Three Senegalese players you should look out for during their Round of 16 match against England are listed below:
- Edouard Mendy: The Chelsea goalkeeper will likely play a significant role in Senegal's triumph if they are going to win this game. Mendy, who has received 28 caps for his country, will need to be at the top of his game against England because of their strong offensive. He will be hoping that he is at the top of his game since against the Netherlands, he made two errors that lost his side two late goals. A repeat performance might see his team eliminated, so we keep our fingers crossed he's at his best behaviour.
- Famara Diédhiou: Although he now competes in the Turkish division, English defenders should surely not underestimate him. He is swift, powerful, and technically skilled, and in his 26 appearances for the team, he has scored 11 goals. Jordan Pickford may have a lot of work to do if he finds himself alone against an England defence. We are eager to observe how he performs in opposition to the English defence.
- Ismaila Sarr: Sarr, a Watford player who presently competes in the English second tier, is the one man that the England defence will be most mindful of. He does, however, possess the skill to play in the English Premier League, and when the transfer market opens in February 2023, he will probably be there. He has excellent ball control and blistering pace, so if permitted to run at the England defence, he may create a lot of problems.

Even though England are the overwhelming favourites to win, we anticipate a competitive match that will only be decided by one goal.
